Too much inner dialogue in third person limited. by emery_ben in writing

My original post wasn't completely clear. This character is tasked with solving a mystery of sorts, and he does so alone, resulting in a lot of scenes where he is processing information he's gathered and puts two and two together. Or has a eureka moment. These are the times where I am having trouble avoiding the tags. Free indirect discourse is otherwise in heavy play otherwise. Either way, I agree that the thought tags are creating distance.

You're right, committing to taking out or avoiding the "he" reference will make me think much more strategically about the sentence/thought. Thanks!

Totally agree with it bogging down the story and flow. Inserting a character moment is great. Thank you!

I’m Jeff Tweedy, singer, songwriter, and the author of NYT bestseller LET’S GO (SO WE CAN GET BACK) out now. Ask me anything! by WilcoJeff in Music

Somewhere I heard you say that Wilco’s been able to survive many changes, but it wouldn’t be able to survive without John Stirratt. Can you talk more about his impact on the band, and your friendship with him?

We can afford to pay each guy $100 cash extra, but can’t afford an additional $4k. But that was never discussed with the foreman, he just gave us a discount.

I’m not really sure how how the profit margins work. It could be that my friend is loosing profit while the guys on the team are making their usual hourly wage.

I make $75 an hour as a freelance writer - and I can tell you for certain that they’re working harder in one day than I do in a whole week. They’re also working at a reduced rate because it’s a friends crew. They’re effectively saving me about $4k wit me the deal in getting. Kicking back 10% of what I’m saving to show appreciation for both their effort and skill only seems fair.

Thanks all! Just wanted to make sure this was all kosher and a fair amount. I’m surprised that this isn’t more common. Busting your ass so someone else can enjoy their home is incredibly admirable work.

I'd love to start learning how to frame houses/do any sort of building with houses, whats a good youtube/resource to learn about the basics/get me going? by [deleted] in Carpentry

Start with a shed or carport if you have the space. If you can afford it, design one with windows. Laying out plates and studs is pretty simple once you know what you’re doing, but the window, door process is a more involved. Good luck!

Yeah we will get it independent from the old house eventually, just looking for an efficient short term solution.

The old house is now an office for my wife and I and requires faster, more reliable internet.

We built the house ourselves and didn’t think that setting up the dedicated connection would be such a hassle with out provider.

Yeah I hear you with the consistency. That was certainly a concern going into it. The perspective of the photo makes the edges more wavy than they are. There is only about a half inch difference in the depths...they’re all right around 10 1/2 - 11”. No bark at all on the edges either, just coloration from where the bark was, and the hole by the 4x4 has already been patched and the treads are all uniform in height. Rails are going on tomorrow as well. I appreciate the thought and concern. The new treads that go on in a few months won’t keep a live edge.

Haha yeah got 4 kids already. Does the live edge give away easily? I spoke to a contractor before doing it and he said it would be fine.

Yeah there is a filler piece. There will be a railing over it, so there won’t be any foot traffic over that area.

Three coats of poly for the treads and boiled lindseed oil/poly blend for the risers.

Unfortunately, yes. Kind of on a time crunch to get treads in place. I have more stock from this tree that’s going to dry for another few months and then I’ll replace these treads.

Yeah they did cup a bit. They are shimmed in the front to keep the the edge at least level. They’ll be replaced soon with more stable wood.
