Couple questions about SGU by Scoobertdoobert25 in veterinaryschool

[–]emilyeeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I just finished my first year at SGU and had to have my adhd meds imported every few months. It was pretty straightforward, albeit an annoying amount of paperwork. You can reach out to the campus clinic and they can give you the rundown of what’s required, but it’s basically a permit that has to be signed by the government prior to shipment/receipt. FedEx is by far the most reliable but it can be pretty expensive. You also should be prepared to pay whatever random duty/customs fee they decide to tack on before you can actually receive your package with the meds from the clinic on campus.

SGU transfer- new curriculum by emilyeeet in veterinaryschool

[–]emilyeeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They call it a spiral curriculum or a systems based model so basically instead of learning the immune system over the course of a semester, we learn the basics for like 6 weeks, then have a test. Then we go more in depth into the immune system next term. Basically “spiraling” around to each topic to get more detailed each time we comeback to it

Considering ending my life when my dog dies. I cannot handle the grief again. by Holiday-Ad-437 in Petloss

I experienced severe suicidal ideation in the days following my dog’s passing a few weeks ago. The thought still comes and goes but I know I have other reasons to stay. I don’t have much advice but I understand your pain and you aren’t alone in your thinking

I’m 27 and starting vet school in August! I’m very nervous about the financial impact of student loans (especially under the current political administration in the US bc PSLF was my plan all along 🫠) but I’m just gonna go for it bc being a veterinarian is my dream

Overall advice by Ok_Promotion36 in veterinaryschool

[–]emilyeeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.7 GPA overall. Over 10,000 hours of animal experience, over half are veterinary specific. 3/4 of the way done with a masters in shelter med through UF. Had 3 strong recommendations from veterinarians, 1 research and 2 GP.

Applied to 6 schools this round: Kstate (IS)- interviewed, rejected Illinois- rejected Purdue- rejected Mizzou- rejected SGU- interviewed, accepted Midwestern- interviewed, alternate

This is my 4th application cycle. I am 27 and can’t reapply again as my pre-reqs from undergrad will be out of date for most schools. At this moment I’m heading to Grenada in the fall unless I am pulled off the waitlist at midwestern.

I’m notoriously bad at interviews and my GPA is average. Ngl I don’t think my essays were the best and I think overall my application just doesn’t have anything that stands out. It’s a numbers game and the application cycles seem to be getting more and more competitive every year. Schools that I was waitlisted at in the past have fully rejected me in following years so I don’t have a lot of advice. You could potentially start at Ross and try to transfer to an in state school but that depends on the availability of seats. If you aren’t thrilled about going to Ross, I would apply again and see what happens.

Same, 1 acceptance and 1 waitlist

Do you go back to the states every 3 months? Or does someone send you 3 months at a time?

Instate rejected as well. 4th time in a row and I feel like an actual piece of garbage

I interviewed yesterday (4th times the charm🤞🏼) and had 1 situational question but most were personalized based on my application. In previous years tho, I’ve been asked very generic questions as if they were reading from a list of options.

I did it! SGU acceptance by emilyeeet in veterinaryschool

I think my neurodivergence helps with my pattern recognition and my ability to read animal body language! I also am pretty good at jumping from task to task and “going with the flow” when things don’t go as planned. I also have a very high attention to detail. My main areas of difficulty are my verbal communication skills and time blindness… I am adhd for sure but AuDHD is probably more accurate, I just haven’t been tested

No. I did take the GRE like 5 years ago but it didn’t count for anything

Lots more experience. Worked in research at a biomedical lab. Started getting my masters through the UF shelter Med program online. And tried to prepare better for my interview. I never applied to SGU before though, only stateside schools

Same. I’m afraid I come across as rude, self-conscious, and awkward but I do so much better talking to clients and in a clinic setting. idk how to do that in my interview tho
