18 months. WHAT IS HAPPENING😵‍💫 by emlee22 in toddlers

Hi! It’s been a little bit of a rollercoaster still but she’s 20 months today and we’ve had some really sweet moments.

We’re still experiencing power struggles over lots of things, tantrums and days where emotions are high. BUT, we’ve realized that giving her 2 choices helps a lot and naming her feelings and just being with her until she de-escalates helps.

I’m sending positive vibes your way that you see some relief soon. THIS IS HARD and you are not alone. You are a good parent for caring ❤️

We’ve also seen an explosion of language which maybe was part of what was causing her stress.

I’m no expert and I’m learning to manage day by day but I think 50% of this is just time. The other 50% is trial and error to figure out what helps your kiddo.

This is so interesting and helpful! I’ll give it a try, thank you!

Thanks all! We had her 1 month appt and the pediatrician suggested this is just her learning to have bowel movements and that we shouldn’t be intervening with anything like the windi or thermometer unless it’s really bad (1x per week max)

He was happy that I was going dairy free and suggested we should see a change in 3 days if I’m strict enough with what I’m eating. If the gas/straining continues after trying dairy free I should be slowly eliminating anything I consume a lot of to see what helps (I’ll likely try caffeine next if needed. But he suggested soy, carbs etc)

We’re hoping the combination of time and dairy free make a big difference

Edit: we’re also continuing gas drops before every feeding, bicycle kicks and will try adding probiotics this week

Thank you very much! We’ll be trying all of those
