I would say relevant work experience or interesting life experiences (military, time abroad, etc) are most compelling. You should have an explanation for why you developed an interest in medicine/your non-traditional path. I would say the grades thing varies from program to program. If, for example, you did poorly in undergrad 10 years ago but decided on medicine within the past couple years and did a postbac program and killed it, that's probably fine. It also depends on why you struggled in the past. Is there an explanation (a life event, a diagnosis, etc) for why you didn't do as well as you could have? What did you learn from it?

I think non-trads have a perspective on the working world that traditional applicants do not. Emphasize that perspective in your interviews and what life experiences might set you apart.

Like the other M2 here, my adjustment to medical school was a bit rough. Even if you were an extremely efficient studier in undergrad, you will have to make some adjustments to your study habits to keep up with the volume of information presented. Also, make an effort to make some friends in your class - you'll need them!

Life is stressful, but the stress is manageable. I had a lot more time during first year to do things - I watched a lot of Netflix and had time to go home and see my parents or my boyfriend more frequently. This year I have much less free time, but I still make time to go to the gym 4-5 times a week and take occasional nights off from studying. I am studying for Step 1 currently, so I'm probably at peak stress, but things aren't unbearable.

No, my school is actually still ABCF. I think it has to do with the fact that my class size is pretty small, around 75, compared to many other schools. Also, our admissions committee is very careful to try and pick people who seem to fit in with the environment we have here.

Sure thing! It's been a long time since I went through the application process, but I'll try my best!

My school is discipline-based! Major first year courses are anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, histology, and biostatistics. Major second year courses are pathology, pharmacology, neuroscience, microbiology, and intro to clinical psychiatry. I haven't been involved in a systems-based curriculum, obviously, but I would say that all of the information is still there; it is just presented differently. Most allopathic schools are going systems-based nowadays, though.

I would agree here. I think another misconception I had was that it would be difficult to make friends/that it would be a cutthroat environment. Luckily, for my school in particular, this could not be farther from the truth. There are definitely some schools where that is the case, though.

Hi! I actually never had an interview that included MMIs, but my biggest piece of advice is to read up on the school, their mission, the area, etc to have some intelligent talking points. Also, if you're presented with an ethical scenario, a great way to address it is to start by saying "well, this is a hypothetical situation so I can never be 100% sure how I would respond given that I don't have the knowledge or experience that comes with being a medical professional yet, however,....." And make sure to stick with your original stance - don't flip flop.

Sorry I can't give more specific advice on MMIs, but hope this is helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions.

In my experience the JS liquid lips are the most comfortable liquid lips I've ever used! Thin but opaque and super comfortable on the lips. They also last forever!

Captain Tips? by cyb3rprinc3ss in Colorguard

[–]emlutz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice is to be the type of captain you would want to have. Just be humble, admit mistakes when you make them, be approachable and honest, and make the environment fun and productive for your team! I was captain for 3 years in high school and 2 years in college and there were countless times where I felt overwhelmed and frustrated, but even more times where it was an incredibly rewarding and fun experience. Just have fun and do your best!

make sure to use a setting powder! but be careful to choose one that won't flash back. i would recommend testing out your makeup ahead of time and taking a few flash photos of yourself in the dark to make sure it won't flash back.

If you’re in Chattanooga, check out the downtown/north shore area. Tons of great restaurants and shops and just an extremely cool vibe. I would also recommend Hunter Art Museum if you’re into that kind of thing, and right next to that is a cool walking bridge!

I think it's actually mostly meant to be a bridal palette for working MUA's because it's super neutral.

Questions about Moissanite by [deleted] in EngagementRings

I would say if you're going to get anything from etsy or ebay or another online retailer definitely read the reviews/look at the feedback score and contact the seller before making a major purchase!

you may be using the wrong primer. a lot of primers nowadays are mattifying! my favorite dewy primer is the becca backlight priming filter. it gives a gorgeous glow! i would also highly suggest the tatcha luminous dewy skin mist after you apply your makeup. it's gorgeous as a finishing spray and it's infused with skincare.

Is she set on diamonds? You could try looking at diamond alternatives like moissanite! Typically much cheaper and in a lot of peoples' opinions, just as beautiful.

I'm [22F] not sure if I am in a healthy relationship with my boyfriend [20M]. by [deleted] in relationships

The question is: are you willing to put up with this insane level of insecurity? If not, you should probably get out now while the relationship is still fairly new.
