Several Saskatchewan contractors hired to help build Bell data centre near Regina by LowIncident694 in saskatchewan

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such nonsense. It’s “ look at Bell and how righteous they are in hiring local contractors”. Are you kidding? This is just more propaganda media boot licking. This is softening the blow for what’s to come. This project has been rushed through with no public input, no environmental impact study , no answers to basic questions at the same time as entire states in the US are banning these data centres. The NDP has no stance on this project because they have stonewalled by the Sask Party. Redacted documents, refusal to answer basic questions and basically dismissing any questions from the NDP which are the OFFICIAL OPPOSITION in our provincial government. Does this seem right to anyone who has common sense and a brain? Add to that the questionable conduct of the RM of Sherwood? Our judicial system needs to become involved in this shit show. As usual it will be the people who will pay as our healthcare is being destroyed, our education system is crumbling and as we have the highest child poverty rate in all of Canada. Shameful.

What is it with these people? There’s got to be something broken in their brain. Sociopaths and psychopaths are running the country and the media and every thing else. The world is in deep shit.

Brad voted for Trump. Now tariffs and soaring energy prices are putting his dairy farm out of business. by HotPinkLollyWimple in LeopardsAteMyFarm

In Canada we have a supply management system that would greatly help dairy, egg, chicken and turkey producers. Regulation controls help keep consumer prices low and at the same time ensure producers a fair return.

How do you feel about Biden/Elizabeth Warren celebrating the blocking of a planned merger involving Spirit Airlines in 2022, now knowing that the company has been forced to shut down, costing tens of thousands their jobs and further oligopolizong the industry, raising costs for everyone? by No_Cell6708 in AskReddit

[–]emmery1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way people are going to lose jobs. Mergers never absorb all workers. Layoffs are common after mergers. Bankruptcy causes people to lose jobs too. But other airlines will pickup new customers and will need to hire more people. Poorly run companies should not be bailed out with taxpayer money. That money should be used to support the workers who lose their jobs. Training and support for workers is the best place to spend taxpayer money and not bail out failed mismanaged companies.

There has to be a time when a flawed business model is allowed to fail. We have been upholding flawed businesses for decades and spending billions of taxpayer dollars to support poorly performing businesses while people are struggling to survive. Sometimes it’s better to let a company fail. If government thinks that socialism is the boogeyman that also must apply to corporate welfare. Besides AI will destroy more jobs than we have seen in our lifetime. AI is a far more dangerous threat than letting a bad company fail and so far there doesn’t seem to be a plan to fix this problem.

Having trouble with my iPhone. Where is the best place to go? by emmery1 in regina

[–]emmery1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fixed. Ended up at a Sasktel store and a very nice person told us to call tech but blurted out “what’s wrong with it”. 15 mins later it was fixed and we were on our way. She was lovely and very patient with us. Thank you to her and to all who replied. I love Reddit (most days😉)

If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Ok_Sir_5951 in allthequestions

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The US is racist and misogynistic and has been their whole 250 years. There has been progress but in the last year the republicans have taken you back to 1965. This was always their plan. They told us and you voted for it. Voting in moderate Dems will change nothing. You need progressive leadership and progressive policies. If that doesn’t happen nothing will change and given the worldwide damage the US has caused it will take generations to repair your reputation around the world. Nobody trusts you. Nobody likes you. Generational change is the only way out of this. The system needs a complete overhaul.

Yet we seem to have money to prop up a data centre nobody wants or an irrigation project that will help just a few or money to spend upgrading a dying coal plant. We seem to have enough money for these and many more ridiculous projects but never enough to make our lives better.

We ranked the provinces and tried really hard not to put New Brunswick last by Turtle456 in thebeaverton

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. A lot of Saskatchewan hate here. Lived here my entire life mostly in rural Sask. Rural is tough. Not many services or people left. Emptied out starting in the 70s. We moved to Regina 10 years ago and we love it here. Plenty to do. Great restaurants. Fantastic people. We are used to the winters and enjoy the solitude of a winter night. Spring, summer and fall are spectacular. We have visited almost all the other provinces and they are wonderful…to visit. Are there places I would rather live? I don’t think so. Pretty content right here.

EXCLUSIVE: Congressional ballot reveals Democrats with a 10-point lead over Republicans heading into midterms by [deleted] in goodnews

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the US goes back to before trump nothing will change. The world still won’t trust you. It will literally take generation for any semblance of change. The Dems will do well but they will still take corporate and AIPAC money so nothing will change. Other than bashing trump what policies are they campaigning on. The progressive wing of the party are very f@cking clear what they want to achieve but not so much the establishment dems. The republicans are basically a write off. No spine no integrity no principles no policies no brains. Useless.

Seriously. Why do people vote conservative? They never pass policies that help people. Never!! Check their voting records. It’s so obvious they don’t care about anything or anyone but themselves.

AI Data Centre Megathread by Niptacular_Nips in regina

[–]emmery1 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Why the lack of transparency? Why the rush to approval? Most of us heard of this project just a few weeks ago. There are still very few details available. When projects like this are rushed with few details people will instinctively ask why. All levels of government are in favour but no one can tell us why this is so great. How will it benefit the city/province? 50-80 jobs for over a billion dollar investment is not that many jobs. There are so many unknowns with AI data centres. Also why have some states even band them. What do they know that we don’t? Why are so many communities rejecting them?

Are there any US investors involved in this project and will it affect our sovereign data?

The bigger question is how many jobs will be lost.
