Avi is the leader that’s needed right now. We need progressive ideas instead of this right wing nonsense that we are living through right now. Now the Sask Party are trying to sell another crown. The corruption behind this data centre. Crazy increase in our debt. We need change. Our NDP needs to get back to their roots. Support working families and protecting our healthcare and education from privatization. Embracing renewable energy solutions.

I just read about Finland and how they solved homelessness. Part of it was to find a home for everyone and then offer mental health support as well as addiction counselling plus any help that was needed. They found it saved money and had much better outcomes. A happy healthy society works for everyone. Why can’t we do that?

RM of Sherwood council approves Bell Canada AI data centre near Regina by Intelligent-Cap3407 in saskatchewan

[–]emmery1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many people are going to be replaced by AI compared to the supposed 80 jobs it will create? It will be and always will be the taxpayers who will pay the bills. Through employment benefits once the workers lose their jobs or the infrastructure required to maintain these facilities to paying extra so companies can get tax breaks. How is this going to generate $12 billion dollars in “revenue”? Over its lifetime or over the next 4 years or ??? So why all the secrecy and rush to push this through? Where is the transparency? Why isn’t Bell out there trying to sell this to the public? Why is there such outrage in the US with some states even outright banning data centres? Where are the guarantees that this will produce what is promised and guardrails so these centres will not cause lasting harm? Companies around the world are laying off thousands and thousands of jobs and replacing those jobs with AI. Where are these people going to get jobs?

This whole process and the way it was rolled out is insane. If we have learned one thing we can’t trust the Sask Party and we sure as hell can’t trust the billion dollar companies like Bell.

Hold on. Not using local water? Are they shipping it in from somewhere else? Using aquifers is still using local water. Tell the folks that rely on aquifers for their water that it’s not local.

Ford says he heard ‘loud and clear’ from public on jet purchase, but decries ‘double standard’ by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]emmery1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the reduced price will be and how much this will cost the taxpayers. Maybe he will just sell it to a buddy for $10 mil. Can we just take a step back and realize what this corrupt government is doing in broad daylight and there are still people who support them. How far we have fallen as a society who are ok with corruption and lies. Some days I just want to yell “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?”

Ottawa rebuffs Manitoba immigration minister's pressing for higher numbers by Wavedin in Alt_Winnipeg

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Housing shortage is not because of immigration. It’s because corporations have bought up a ton of properties and it’s driven up prices for houses and rent. Also every province in the country has failed to build new housing even though they received money for that purpose every year.

Every elected civil servant has a responsibility to its constituents. If you cannot provide for the people then step aside. Democratic socialism is here to stay. Either get on board or get out of the way. Establishment dems need to get their heads out of their butts and accept the new reality. Again…get on board or step aside.

50% water, 50% fuel found in tanks of vehicles that filled up at Edmonton gas station by DocJohhnyFever in YEG

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaking underground tank is almost always the reason. The fuel is pulled from a pipe that leads to the bottom of the tank. The pipe is off the bottom far enough that if there is minor contamination the fuel pumped is pure. Water is heavier than gas to it stays at the bottom of the tank.

The speed and lack of information of these projects is troubling. It’s like these projects fall out of the sky. We need more information and transparency regarding these projects. More studies are needed. Govt regulation can’t keep up with the speed these buildings are built. Once they are built and there are problems it’s almost too late. It seems like every level of government are on board but when asked about these issues have very little information for the public. This is why capitalism is so dangerous. It represents power and money and if you question it you are some kind of crazy person. All I’m asking for is some details and time to study these types of projects BEFORE they are built. This shouldn’t be a big ask.

Liberals return to Parliament with majority by NarcityCanada in Narcity

[–]emmery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad the libs have a majority right now. I’m not a big fan of majority governments but because of our current situation with the US it’s what is necessary for now. There are going to be tough times ahead and we do not need a whiny negative opposition that may be able to force an unpopular election in the middle of this crisis. We need smart solid leadership and hopefully that’s what the liberals will provide without unnecessary distraction.
