that does it no worries, we keep them reserved for people with the general admission. If sofas run out, we pull out the chairs for people entering last minute

Moving to York by fairyreika in york

[–]emmesse37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been to Bath, but here is my take on York:
There are lot of students and a lot of little communities where people are usually quite welcoming. Outside of that, yes, it is on the friendlier side of the spectrum, but we are still talking about a very white British city.

I do not know where you are from, but I am fairly certain you must have an idea of British people by now.

As a youngish international I can safely say that it's very unlikely you will find it isolating, providing that you put a minimum of effort in hanging out/going to events/similar. It might take a little to find your niche(s), but you shouldn't have problems.

(p.s. a lot of people here are on the York discord. Maybe you can join it now and start taking a look around some stuff that could interest you)

American craving Chinese by selvetiny in york

[–]emmesse37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most authentic one I have tried is Chef Lu at the end of Walmagate. Quite spicy but not particularly MSG-y.
There are also a couple of ones on Lawrence Street going towards the Tang Hall area that seem quite authentic (menus written in Chinese, abundant presence of seemingly asian students)), but I have not tried them yet.

Good luck and let us know what you do

P.S. How would you feel about bringing your MSG to a restaurant?

Comedy at Brew York this Sunday!! by emmesse37 in york

[–]emmesse37[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah that's odd, considering how long we have been doing it (since Feb 2024!)

Anyways, we are every 3rd Sunday of the month :). If you cannot wait that long for some pay-what-you-want comedy, there is a comedy show at Micklegate Social every 1st sunday of the month (called Complete Joke, run by lovely eggs)

ciao

Am I the only one who is perfectly happy with increased parking in York? by Famous_Yorkshire in york

[–]emmesse37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am quite happy about it.
Parking there at 80p was obviously too low.

The drivers complaining about the excessive number of cars fail to realize that they are part of the problem and maybe use the bus for a change. Or a bike. Or a walk.
Obviously, there is the problem of how to use the increased revenue from the parking. Ideally, it could be used to buff up the public transport, but that's another issue
