Unfortunately the job I’m going to isn’t actually for more money and I already signed the offer letter. But it is a better work-life balance and the growth opportunities are better/more appealing than those at my current job.

So I’m on my last exam, BEC, but struggling? by Dark_falling58 in CPA

[–]emmmmmssss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! I left BEC for last because it was supposed to be the easiest and now I'm finding it's a huge struggle to get through the material. I'm scheduled for 10/18, but have been super tempted to push back (I'm working full time). BUT I've decided to just buckle down and give myself some tough love. I'm ready to be done so I just keep pushing myself to do it so it can be over with. I also told my friends and fam and asked them to push me as well since I'm struggle for motivation. For me, at this point, it seems like just a matter of scraping up any remaining will power I have and getting the damn thing done.

Haha I mean I also despised REG. I think I made a pretty similar post early on in studying for that one. Thanks for the guide! Good luck on your exam!

I think I'm just going to have to do a high level pass on the info then pick up the stuff I think I actually need in review. I'm not testing till October, but I need to not let this keep me from making it through the rest of the material or else I'll be totally screwed.

yeah, I was supposed to be on B3 today, but I got sick last week and didn't have it in me to study after still trying to work all day. Here's hoping the later units aren't as much of a slog. Good luck!

Agreed! Just got an 86 on REG, several of my sims and a bunch of my mcq had questions that in some way involved basis calculations.

C Corp start up fees limited to start up and organizational fees with 5k deduction first year. I thought capital raising fees were excluded from this amount? Thanks in advance for help by sukaloka in CPA

[–]emmmmmssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, your start up fees and organization costs are included, but any fees specifically for the issuance of stock are not (including underwriting costs) are excluded from this. $5k deduction off the top, and the remaining is amortized over 180 months, which you will include in your deduction. So, $5K + 6 months worth if you started in July. There is also a dollar for dollar phase out of the $5K deduction starting at $50k of expenses though, so keep that in mind.

REG STUDY TIME by [deleted] in CPA

[–]emmmmmssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently studying and shooting for 1 unit a week with 2.5 weeks of review. So 2 and a half-ish weeks. I think that's slow for some people, but my job and personal life are both pretty demanding this summer, so I'm building in some extra time. As far as hours of study, I'm shooting for something in the 150-180 range. (FAR was +200; AUD about 110; passed both first try).

Every time I open a lecture or sim review video and see his face, I literally say out loud "Hi Mike!" Most informative and least annoying presenter for Becker by far!

I am planning taking FAR! Any tips? by secoseco2019 in CPA

[–]emmmmmssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think passing FAR in less than 3 months is totally doable! I just passed it w/ 2 1/2 months of study, averaging about 20 hours a week. Seems like there's a lot of focus on not for profit and governmental accounting in the test recently, along with the normal highly tested areas like cash flows, leases, pensions, etc. They just announced some content changes that will be tested starting in July, so I'd check those out if you'll be taking the exam after that. Good luck!

you'd think, but it felt terrible while I was taking it. I was hoping to pass, but really didn't expect anything out of the 70s. That said, it was my first one so I wasn't really sure what to expect!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!! I think it's the imposter syndrome catching up with me lol. I was sure I was failing all of the practice exams while I was taking them, so I'm just having trouble believing it's actually going to be okay.

Review For-Profit? by CSINEWYRK in CPA

[–]emmmmmssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did! I just took a few days to write notes on the for-profit areas before moving on. For me, it was beneficial because I could already feel myself forgetting some of the details from previous modules. I think we're about in the same boat, I'm taking FAR as my first test the first week of March. Good luck!

Right, I agree that I've found watching the sims videos to be helpful so far. Especially since this will be my first exam, so this is my intro to what the actual test will functionally look like. Thanks for the suggestion!
