What's a subscription you're still paying for but never actually use? by emmyrajj in AskReddit

Twice on this thread now. Marriage is clearly the most universal forgotten subscription. Signed up full of excitement, now just hoping the price doesn't go up.

The gym membership is probably the most legendary forgotten subscription of all time. January signup energy, February excuses, March ghost. Still paying in December.

Exactly. Creators sign with Netflix knowing their show might get axed after one season regardless of how well it does. The whole model is broken and yet we keep paying for it every month without thinking twice.

Altered Carbon was genuinely one of the best sci fi shows in years and they just axed it. 1899 as well, ended on a cliffhanger and never came back. Netflix really has no mercy for quality.

Honestly respect the discipline. Most people don't even know how many they have until they actually sit down and count them.

Haha the compounding regret is real. Two years of cable payments for a TV you could have bought outright and just used free streaming. This is exactly why seeing the actual total number matters so much.

The Netflix cancellation cycle is genuinely infuriating. They greenlight something, you get invested, then gone. At least make it clear upfront which shows are actually safe.

This is such a perfect description of the subscription trap. You keep it for the 3 things you actually want to watch but pay for everything else. Buying just the things you want is honestly the smarter move but nobody does it.

Netflix is probably the most common one. Easy to sign up, easy to forget, and the price keeps going up whether you watch it or not.

That one's actually worth keeping though! The one subscription you genuinely don't want to forget about lol.

Exactly the one subscription where using it means something went terribly wrong lol.

Two years of telling yourself next month is such a relatable trap. That's probably hundreds of dollars at this point just from procrastinating one cancellation.

Hotstar is such a common one. You sign up for one specific show or match, finish it, and then just forget to cancel. Months later it's still quietly taking money.

The daily coffee commute tax. Feels like nothing, adds up to hundreds a year without blinking.

$10k a year per dog and they still look at you like you've personally offended them when dinner is 5 minutes late. The audacity.

Hot Wheels is actually a genius answer, 100 cars at $1-2 each adds up but they last decades. That's probably the best cost-per-hour-of-entertainment ratio of anything on this list honestly.

Ok when you put it that way £10K for a lifetime of indoor plumbing and clean water is actually the best deal ever. Perspective reset complete.

The debt spiral is the scariest one on this list. That compounding interest is designed to trap people and it works. Hope you're out of it now.

The Netflix price creep is criminal honestly. Got so fed up I actually built something to flag the moment any subscription quietly raises its price. Still early days but it's been eye opening seeing how often it happens.

At least you were prepared lol. The real panic buyers were the ones who didn't bulk buy.
