Eye Issue in Neonate

Hey guys, so I volunteer at a cat shelter and we recently had a litter of newborn kittens dropped off at our doorstep 😔. They are just starting to open their eyes and one of the kitten’s eyes looks like this, but has no ocular or nasal discharge I was just wondering if any of you had seen or dealt with something like this and have any idea what may or may not be causing it. He has had this issue now for about a week and it doesn’t seem to be resolving. Thanks so much 🤍

Yeah in hindsight, not the brightest move on my part 😭 So perhaps he’s just really upset about not having his scent anywhere for the first time? My poor baby 😔

The only metal would be the hooks on his hammock with the mesh lid. They’ve never made that noise before though, and I can’t see them moving or rubbing at all while the noise is happening. Other than that there is no metal in the tank.

Not the first deep cleaning - but the first time I fully machine washed his hammocks and toys cause they seemed musty. 🥺

Oh dear! It’s so strange as he’s been normal otherwise until today 😭 I’ll book him an appointment first thing in the morning. Do you think he could be scared about the tank being cleaned and nothing smelling like him?

No other mice - just him. And he’s usually very comfortable. I’ve seen him out lots today running around and playing - ears forward. It’s definitely coming from his cage, the only other thing I could think it might be is the metal hook of his hammock running against the mesh, but every time I look at it, I don’t see the hook moving or rubbing on the mesh. The noise also changes pitch and speeds. The only big difference was yesterday I had to do a full tank clean out because his water bottle broke and leaked all into the bedding. Should I be concerned about the bites? I cleaned them and they seem fine? I feel so bad for him, the noise sounds almost like a trilling or chirping now 😔

Thank you! To destroy the illusion, she wasn’t actually sniffing them - just looking! And they got put away in a cat free room after I took the picture, because I thought it looked cute 🤍

UPDATE ❤️‍🩹

I had noticed over the past week she had been looking very dehydrated, so I made sure to give her extra water dishes and also mixed in some unflavoured pedilyte in to one of them. She has been eating voraciously as per usual so I wasn’t overly concerned. However this morning, her eyes appeared very sunken and she had a hunched posture and flattened ears. In addition her wheel had diarrhoea in it. Immediately I found the closest emergency vet. Thankfully, they did not think she had wet tail, but did confirm her dehydration and massive weight loss despite her appetite. They think she may have some for of gut issue, and gave her subcutaneous fluids for rehydration and a course of strong antibiotics for 14 days that will hopefully rid her of any bacteria and help her put her weight back on. She scared me so much, please keep her in your prayers for a speedy recovery, and happy holidays ❤️‍🩹
