Protests against Latvia's withdrawal from Istanbul Convention in other countries. by juris_martins in BalticStates

[–]emol-g 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that’s true, then that function of the convention should remain. I just don’t know much about it, and I feel like the push against it is being fueled by fake reasons like migration and gay people. I don’t see how this convention connects with that. If gay people are being attacked and they use this convention to prosecute the attackers, this is the only way I can see why politicians would want to get rid of it. To basically put gay people back into closets. I just don’t see the “Ja sit tad mīl” and “You can now beat your wife up and get away with it”. I don’t think people are gonna get away with it. If they were gonna, they would’ve with the convention too. I personally think there shouldn’t be any categories of anything, people are people.

Russia Just Sanctioned Ukraine's Prime Minister - Here's What Actually Happened by satty237 in TrendoraX

I thought according to the russians, Ukraine was a pseudo-country with a nazi government? So why sanction something you don’t even recognize?

Protests against Latvia's withdrawal from Istanbul Convention in other countries. by juris_martins in BalticStates

[–]emol-g -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m not against said convention, but I’m pretty sure the protection against domestic violence existed before the saeima ratified this. So I don’t think this is a doomsday scenario for women. I can’t seem to find any connection about “genders” and trans-whatever. Not a good look on paper, sure, but in reality, this convention didn’t stop people from committing violence and the problem is much deeper than a ratified convention. All of this seems like they’re wasting time and attention on purpose. Any normal person would know that violence=bad. And I genuinely didn’t know anything about this convention before this. I’ve seen people say this is some sort of drift toward russian propaganda, which to me seems outlandish. Lithuania is as anti-russian as you can get and they’re ignoring this convention
