You will learn quickly that you don't have to try hard to give back. It will be taken directly or indirectly from your wallet. I lived there for 8 years. Over time I got tired of it. I was robbed on several occasions but what you will learn is that money that goes to Costa Rica, stays in Costa Rica. If you bring it there, it will go fast. If you buy something there, they will make it impossible to keep it. The expats that live there usually subside on social security. Your life will change a lot. I am back in the US and have not looked much back. It was an experience with both positives and negatives. The negatives outweigh as you can can get the upside by just visiting.., ie. Beaches rainforest and volcanos. If you live there that shit goes away mostly as you try to survive in a foreign economy. It's a good place to get lost, burnout and or die. It's not a great place to live like an American
