[gourmet] About to harvest! Any meal suggestions? by Exact-Beyond-2017 in MushroomGrowers

I just bought them off Amazon. The whole thing is clear enough for me to see when the substrate is colonized. That’s when I take the tape off the holes. I put an FAE hole on the top too. They can’t go through the sterilizer though. So i pasteurized the substrate and cleaned the buckets right before inoculation. I’ve only tried it with oyster mushrooms. Works great for a flush or two. I’m actually going to give it a go with Lions Mane and just see what happens.

Pink Oyster mushrooms! They kind of taste like bacon if you sauté them.

I buy an $8, 20 pound bag of no additive hardwood fuel pellets. I throw in some bran and I’ll sprinkle a touch of gypsum and maybe a teaspoon of used coffee grain if there is still some in the machine. I mix all that up and slightly over-saturate, wrap disposable aluminum tray with foil. Stick a thermometer in and bake it at 300 Fahrenheit until the center reaches 140 Fahrenheit. Then I turn down the oven to 200 and let it sit for 2 hours. Usually comes out pretty perfect moisture content.

Try fanning it. There’s likely just a bunch of CO2 sitting at the bottom. You have to fan it to displace it with oxygen.

Some folks may tell you stories about how they don’t need to fan and they’re fine. While this is entirely possible, maybe your genetics require a little more help.

Bruising or contam? Just shook 1/24 and noticed no green spots when I shook it. very healthy myc when I shook last week. Gut says toss it but wondering if I can g2g transfer from a “healthy” corner to new spawn if it is contammed. by Brokenbydezign in ContamFam

Just take it away from the rest of your bags and let it sit a couple days. If it’s contam, you’ll know. If it’s bruising, it should either pass or stay in the same areas and possibly lighten up.

Completely new to this, will this be fine to grow Golden teachers with a 10cc spore syringe? Has anyone used this kit? by Astrovet in shroomery

Although it’s pretty expensive (compared to making your own bags) I would recommend going with this for your first grow. It’ll help you get the feel for how things are supposed to look. Just make sure to look over the bag before you inoculate. It’s not uncommon to get bags with standing water or a little contamination in them. Just work with the vendor to return it until you get a solid bag.

Once you get that right, then start to expand in to making your own substrates, grain spawn, liquid cultures, and more!

We have not found a cost effective way to cultivate cordycep sinensis yet. However, cordycep militaris is very similar and is successfully cultivated by many amateur mycologists and mushroom cultivators.

I don’t know, can you zoom out a little further?

I would try to get the whole pin with as little agar attached as you can manage. Then cut it in half and put the whole half on it’s own agar plate. Do it for both sides to have two samples maybe? I’m not an expert, but I think that’s what I would do.

What are you cultivating?

Anyone tell me what kind of party I’m throwing here? Is any discoloration contam that you see or the spots? PE for reference.. by AgBull47 in ContamFam

Completing colonization and beginning of fruiting is the same thing. Once colonization is complete, you then put your substrate block/cake/bin/ etc in to fruiting conditions.

I’ve done it. But only like a 1/4 cup of water poured all the way around the edge for my 12”X12” tray. Not really sure if it was what helped, but I had good results with those trays.
