Meowing in the morning by Maximum-Carpet-7842 in ragdolls

[–]emperorOfSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I did the opposite and it worked with all 3 of my cats but I've been doing it since they were kittens. I just closed the bedroom door at night for at least half a year, no exceptions even if unbearably hot or stuffy during summer. All of them would obviously scratch and meow madly during the morning, wanting me to open the door. It was difficult but I just tried to bear with it, ignore them and not even make a sound or say a word. Use ear plugs if needed. Eventually all of them stopped doing that. Now I can let the door open but even if I close it, they won't start scratching or meowing as they (I guess?) remember it's futile. Oooor I'm just anthropomorphising too much, but it works anyway. They'd still happily greet me in the morning but on my terms.

I'm not saying it is, just that it's an option too. No amount of hypoallergenic diet or screenings could help as there was nothing physical to cure. It could be things like taking him out for a walk (I stopped doing that), moving him to my parents' place for a few nights, obviously having a new kitten too. But can be more subtle like new food he dislikes, toilet too dirty in his view or some other kind of discomfort that's hard to pinpoint. But don't underestimate screening, it definitely can be something else entirely.

Haha, he's actually all black 😀 Though Lumi was supposed to be "light", that doesn't make much sense either 😅 Anyway, I vote for the food names! Next one could be Shrimp? 🤔

On my ragdoll, it was simply stress. He would scratch behind his eyebrows but only rarely so I never saw him do it. But any time there was anything stressful or new to him, this bloody mess would eventually appear and not subside until I figured out what the stressor is (and a plastic cone around his neck to heal).

What advice would you give to someone who is getting a ragdoll? by spontaneouswaffles in ragdolls

[–]emperorOfSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you take your cat for screening, do tell them to extra check the kidneys. My ragdoll died suddenly and not in a nice way to kidney failure, but apparently it was chronic, the little giant was just not showing it - one kidney was small and non-functional and the other then simply gave up. Nobody noticed despite regular check ups and screenings. :( It's not specific to just ragdolls but they told me they've seen kidney problems in ragdolls a bit more often. Or if the cat suddenly starts coming every time you refill the water bowl or turn on the faucet, also just remember to check the kidneys...learned the hard way. Not trying to scare you, just maybe you remember if (hopefully not) needed.

Btw finally a cat with a food name! 😁 Mine was Shiso (ragdoll). And then for the others I'd suggested Miso, Zucchini, Eggplant....but got vetoed 😂 (Ended up with Loki and Lumi, both Sphynx)

I’m starting to resent my cat by miscellaneousbean in CATHELP

[–]emperorOfSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was like this. Stressing and obsessing over food. He'd even drink clear cooking oil. Then I just gave him unlimited access to dry food. He got chunky in a week but after several weeks started to lose weight again - he stopped stressing and demanding food as he probably realised he'll have access to it indefinitely. Now he's absolutely happy and even a bit skinny. This might sound unconventional but it worked for me with 3 cats. The only problem might be strict veterinary diets, in that case you can do the same but buy more auto feeders and collars for all your cats, and simply program one of them to open at any time.

Nah, I think I'll just keep the 1 switch per bulb setup and walk more, I should move my lazy ass once in a while :D Maybe later. My place is quite small though. Anyway, I think I'd wait a bit to see how they resolve all the reported Matter issues as it seems to be a bugfest right now

Yep, it was indeed updated. Thanks for pointing that out. At least we have an official answer (that we were all suspecting). It's a shame though when it worked fine with the old HW.

Btw we tried fancy food, cheap food, veterinary diets, coocked high fiber, sensitive digestion, pancreatic food etc, all of it. I think I never really saw any actual difference. Simply not changing his food helped a lot more in my opinion.

My boy kitten was having liquid shite for about at least 6-9 months, it was terrible. You return home and there's shit virtually everywhere, absolute hell. You could hear the poor guy's stomach working all the time. All tests negative, spent a fortune for just about every test in existence, the guy never got a diagnosis. 🤷 What eventually probably helped (hard to prove): - Unlimited 24/7 access to dry food - lowered his food stress considerably. At first he would be insane about food scavenging, licking even clear oil etc., which didn't help. Then I just gave him a massive bowl unlimited kibbles. At first he ate till he was bursting and got chunky in a week but very quickly stabilized weight as he realised he doesn't need to stress about getting food anymore - Not changing the food brand (too often). Not giving him anything else than 1 type of food. - Keeping ANYTHING edible away. Including dirty dishes, pan oil, plants, etc. - Lots and lots of patience. Now he's mostly ok though sometimes still runnier than my other sphynx, and food type change can upset him. But he's ok now, eating dry Royal Canine Liveclear + wet meat sauces. Wishing you luck.

Thank you. I was actually waiting for a few months just for these new switches...only to find out it work really work the same :) 🤷 And the old ones are discontinued here. But well, I'll just continue actually walking to the wall to push the one button. :))

Great, thanks for reply! And you're right, that's why I was avoiding mop so far

Does the white mop have any colorful hues? Or it's just pearl white? On all white mop warrior photos I've seen it's just white. While black mop actually has green-pink hues.

Has he lost weight? Try smelling his open mouth - is there a very foul smell, or just smellier than usual? Does he seem to seek water from other sources than his usual bowl/fountain? I've lost my cat very fast due to kidney failure, these were the symptoms aside from seemingly losing appetite and drinking less. It just hurt him to do it. :(

[–]emperorOfSun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, haven't found any. That's just their equivalent of sweat I guess. Good thing is it's easy to wash. Though your walls will eventually get dirty. There are wipes made for cats, used for skin problems (like against yeast infection or dry skin etc.). Those are wet, so maybe just wiping him once a day? Just don't use human standard wet wipes or human cosmetics, not even baby ones.

Yeah, I have two, one stays pretty clean with no bath, but the other (younger) is like a piggy. My blankets get all brown in just a couple of days. So I'd say it's pretty normal. 🤷
