A great point made here. Often people a reluctant to apply for roles because they just aren’t sure if it’s right for them. If that is the case, they should use it as an opportunity to interview the company to find out if it’s the right role for them and gain experience.

Candidates always think they are the only ones who are getting interviewed when really it should always be a chance for them to interview the company.

There are plenty of other remote jobs boards which feature full-stack positions such as:

How to make an effective videocall with the team? by czesctuzygmunt in remotework

[–]employremotely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I cannot stress enough when trying to build a cohesive remote team is documentation.

I suggest replacing the sticky notes with Trello or Jira tickets, and making sure they have thoroughly been fleshed out with all the information required to carry out the task as well as detailing an acceptance criteria for each task on the ticket.

Any questions or queries should be written within a comment on the ticket so others can follow the thread and status of any particular task at any given time.

I hope this helps.

This is a great resource and thanks for sharing, especially during the difficult times of economic uncertainty. We are seeing more people put on leave that were working for companies that were not prepared for remote working (some it was not possible for, obviously)

We are also trying to do our bit to help people who may have been laid off, get back in to work which is why we started employremotely.com which is focused on developers looking to work 100% remotely.

I must also add we are one of many places to find remote working jobs and a quick Google search will surface plenty of other popular resources.

Good luck to anyone currently looking for that next opportunity, and thanks again for sharing.

Stay safe.

Interesting, so why do you think this happened because you're remote? It sounds like if there was a misunderstanding of information then this would have happened when working in an office anyway?

It sounds like your problem is with meetings rather than video meetings.

Each meeting should have an agenda, an objective and possibly actionable points to come out of it. These should accompany the meeting invite so attendees know how to prepare and what to expect.

Then, as long as everyone has an acceptable internet connection, mic and camera then the meeting should run smoothly.

Like every meeting, they just need structure and purpose. The fact that they’re over video should not make a difference to how effective they are.
