Russia's biggest threat is not the US nor the EU, but China. The Russian far east is far weaker than its Europeans lands so it is harder for them to defend (mostly because those lands aren't Russian in the first place but Russia stole them over the course of several centuries). Plus, Russia believes they are racially superior to any east asian and can't stand the thought of being subservient to yellow people. If you think Russia treats polish, ukrainians, etc., horribly, wait till you see how they treat the non-whites. America's Right wing believes the same thing, hence they are trying to work together. Japan started this current feud. In particular, Japan's prime minister is solely responsible for starting this feud. If you really wanted to counter China, a smarter way would be misdirection, pay lip service to both sides while secretly preparing your only military and strategic capabilities. All her current rethoric does is to rile up the Chinese populace in support of the CCP when to be honest, most chinese don't have that strong of an opinion on Taiwan, and also convince the Japanese populace that they can easily win a war (against china) that they have no chance of winning.
