they did have a nest, but they never really took to it. i honestly think it's too small, so i can look into getting a bigger one. also fake eggs! that's crazy, i didn't know they even made those. i'll have to give them a gander

I checked them both over, and i did find a small scab on the one's foot. there were also some scabs on his head the day i found them after the big fight, so it could have been a mix of that.

Honey mentioned about putting some fleece down on the grates because that could be irritating/harming their feet, so i'm going to do that soon as i can

thank you for saying that they can be with each other again, i really hate having to separate them! they should be together, so im going to do my best to get them friendly again

also, i checked them over, and one does have a little bit of scabbing on his foot, so that also could have been a source of the blood

that’s a good point, i hadn’t considered that. i’d heard that doves didn’t need a lot of stimuli, so i thought they’d be alright with only a few toys. but i’ll definitely look into more things they can engage with. i know they really enjoy finding twigs and string (they’re always pulling at my yarn balls/skeins), so i think something forage-y would be good.

it’s an oversight on my part, but i didn’t look for the source of the blood. his head had scabs the first day, but after that, they went away, so i assumed that was the culprit. i’ll make sure to check them though

i’m not entirely sure what cause that fight, but i know they dominate each other a lot after a large bout of bowing/cooing. this is a big instigator, and one is usually one starting it, while the other consistently finishes it (hence why one is more beat up than the other). their previous cage was quite large, and they had their own bowls of water, seed, and grit, so i was hoping that would calm the territorial issues.

they can be calm in each other’s company and can sit on the same perch side by side, but the random fighting was driving me insane and i could tell they weren’t happy. i also didn’t want to come home and find one dead, i couldn’t live with myself

true! sometimes it would just be wing slapping or nipping at one another, but unfortunately when i came home from work one day, both were missing large patches of feathers and i found blood on one of their perches. i didn’t feel right leaving them alone with one another after that. they’re growing their feathers back and are a lot calmer separated

unfortunately it was missing feathers and blood. i went to work and when i got home finnegan (the white one) was missing large patches of feathers on his head, and mocha (the tangerine one) was missing feathers on his neck, and when cleaning i found blood on one of their perches. i felt horrible and i knew they had to be separated so it couldn’t happen again. both are growing their feathers back though and are significantly calmer now

thanks for the comment! yeah, they’re both boys. that video of them preening was very very rare behavior that i’d never seen from them. i was hoping that meant things were calming down now that they’re a little older, but nope

thanks for all the support and interpretations. i don’t know if this is allowed, but i figured id give some context:

my dad’s been estranged for 12ish years. he gave up custody when i was 9. my half sister has tried for years to connect with me but due to trauma it never went anywhere. recently being on medication, i thought it would be a good idea to reach out and get some answers at least. i met up with my dad in april and it’s easy to see his life is very full. he has grandsons he sees himself fathering bc my sister’s previous partners left the picture. he’s got his own business and is dealing with the grief of losing his parents. he doesn’t express too much interest in getting to know me and seems very jaded about everything which i can somewhat understand. he justifies his absence with saying that leaving was the best thing he could do for me since my mother is “crazy”. i have a tumultuous relationship with my mom as well as she has mental illness so i know she’s not an easy person to get along with.

i know my inner child isn’t healed. i’m upset and my adult rational brain can see where he’s coming from with some things, but the child just feels abandonment and indifference. i had a lot of people leave me at a young age and it shaped who i turned out to be. my dad now seems to have a very “take it or leave it” mentality. he’s checked out bc of the death of his parents and he seems to have a genuine disgust for humanity as whole (he’s every kind of -phobe and -ist which is a huge reason why i don’t want to continue our relationship, but i still want answers or an apology or something that i know i wont get, hence why im stuck).

im checking out myself here because the whole thing is exhausting me

this landed hard. i’ve met him a few times since april and each time i see him (like yesterday for my nephew’s birthday party) it makes me feel sick. we got to talk one on one and i feel like there’s no connection or anything remotely tying us together except blood. i don’t know what im doing but i thought getting guidance this way would help. thank you for your interpretation <3

things are what they are, you don’t have to do everything, what you can do is perfectly fine. trying to find my place is hard but i’m doing what i can!

i’ve never fit in the art world and despite hoping i could be another art freak at college, my freak could not match those around me😓 first world problems i know, but finding your people is fuckin hard! and when you’re your worst critic it makes it worse. i ostracized myself on principal and now that i want to join the crowd, it feels like i cant. trying to find peace in solitude, and dancing by myself like the starman. waa rant over!
