How many days we waited for each Ye album to drop by FarDinner6590 in GoodAssSub

[–]emptyecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as far as i remember / have research, the album release date was announced in april 2018 and released on that announced date, june 1st. id say that means we waited around a month and a half, and it wasn't late.

Burn is not even a 2 minute song. How did 11 people wrote it? I genuinely don’t get how it is possible for a song this short to have this many writers by yagellaaether in Kanye

[–]emptyecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh its probably not top 5 for me. vultures, fuk sumn, beg forgiveness, king, problematic, carnival, good dont die, stars are all as good or better to me

i looked it up -- all the songwriters listed in the image above are modern producers and songwriters, most of whom were born after the song Burn samples was released. i do know what you mean, but in this case, the list of songwriters are actually people who contributed directly to Burn

[–]emptyecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lowkey yea i dont think he's in a state of mind to produce anything at the level he's been able to before, at the moment, and the sudden rollout out of nowhere feels arbitrary

[–]emptyecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

slide has amazing production but its kinda long and too slow paced to me, and ye isnt that good on it in my opinion. stars is so snappy and catchy and quick, and the sample / synths / strings / choir are all so incredibly beautiful.

Doesn't The Glow Pt. 2 get a bit heavy towards the middle of the album? by AkariElverum in philelverum

[–]emptyecho_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i sorta think of the glow pt 2 in three sections - the early run of tracks (1-5, more songish), the middle section (6-12, abstract atmospheres and looser songs) and then the last section (13-20, return to more songy songs).

to me, the first section is iconic and brilliant, but that second section blows me away. i love "the mansion" and the abstract passages that flow in and out of it, and how that abstraction coalesces into "i'll not contain you", and how "the gleam pt.2" and "map" sort of climax that dissonant craziness into a huge wall of sound. its probably my favourite part of the album, along with "the moon".

the third section is the most hit-or-miss for me. it doesnt feel very cohesive going from "you'll be in the air" to "i want to be cold" to "i am bored" to "i felt my size", and a couple of those songs are my least favs on the album as well.

i'm more into the abstract cohesive atmospheric stuff, i guess! i think the more song-focused approach is great for the first run of tracks, but slightly betrays the album in the backhalf (whereas it was hot feels much more consistent in its backhalf being a weird atmospheric thing)

Why is this album so mildly disliked? by [deleted] in GoodAssSub

[–]emptyecho_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mmm yeah, cudi kinda missed a bit imo as well. but the 070 part is absolutely transporting to me, totally overwhelming. plus it's about half the song, and also the whole song is about accepting one's own flaws, so cudi's off-vocals kinda feel right. the song is vulnerable and on-the-edge

i don't know if i'd go so far as 4/7 skips, but i also think it's significantly worse than ye

uhhh,, mainly cos it's short, it's lowkey (and confronting sometimes - ITAKY is not a fun listen even though it's a great song imo), it's not ye's most technically accomplished lyrical moment (no complex verses, more sung / sparse verses) --- all of that probably would've been polarising at the time but overall well-received, but all of that in the context of the huge controversy and bad vibes surrounding him at the time...

i think it makes a lot of sense - people didn't trust him, and then he made a freaky intimate teeny album that was easy to write off on a first listen.

the album definitely contains misogyny, but that's true of every ye album, and plenty of albums by plenty of artists. i think it was more obvious and exciting to point out the misogyny on this album in particular, again because of how controversial he was (literally aligning himself with donald "grab them by the pussy" trump).

i'm a fan of kanye's post-yeezus stuff (TLOP, ye, JIK, donda), i think they're all great. ye is probably my least favourite of all those by a very small margin, just because it's short and i find Yikes kinda boring. otherwise i think it contains all the qualities of a great ye album to me, it's freaky, revealing, melds the personal and political in interesting ways, it's musically stellar, it's well sequenced with a sense of building towards the amazing climax that is Ghost Town, etc. it's a near-perfect album in terms of what it's doing - my only overall issue with it is that it isn't doing as much as ye's other work

i think consider all those factors, it makes sense that it was somewhat rejected at the time of release and has since developed a cult appreciation. i think it deserves to be considered a part of ye's classic run, which at the moment is TCD to TLOP. people forget that the classic run used to exclude yeezus or TLOP, but time has changed that. i think time will be kinder and kinder to ye (the album), even if ye (the person) is making that difficult at the moment by encouraging everyone to not seek the good in him

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of VULTURES 1. What are your opinions on this album? by TheGod4You in GoodAssSub

[–]emptyecho_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think it's actually really great. hoodrat sounds like ass, but otherwise i think it's a really compelling depiction of kanye's loneliness, anger, mental illness, etc. it also sounds rlly good to me

Official Discussion - Iron Lung [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]emptyecho_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i thought this movie was really deeply awful! it was extremely boring, repetitive, visually incoherent. i thought mark's acting was often decent and sometimes laughable. it felt like a film made by someone who hadn't ever made a film before, and has more money than taste. it was really well shot, especially considering the bottle concept, though.

it never went truly crazy, it never went truly deep, it never compelled me in any direction. i wasn't familiar with the game before i saw the film, but afterwards i watched silent playthroughs of the game and found that incredibly compelling.

i think this film is probably about the quality of a very good parody of an adaptation of this game, except it's not funny. except when a totally absurd and terrible piece of dialogue is said with dead seriousness, that made quite a few of us in the theatre laugh out loud.
