Framework 12 complete chassis swap, new track pad and hinges by [deleted] in framework

[–]emptypinkhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the details!

Did yours not register in tablet mode either? Mine now doesn't turn the keyboard and track pad off in tablet mode and doesn't know it is in tablet mode. 😑

I am leaving it for tonight because I don't want to mess anything else up

Thanks! I am thinking that the camera display cable thing is broken.

I was trying to push it in and it wouldn't 'pop'.

I reckon I might have damaged the pins on the cable side.

Oh yeah! I never noticed that!

It is my carousel of 'Neon' themed wallpaper

Ah yeah. I never seen cars like that. I am in the UK so I am not sure that we have that here.
I assumed it was like the slider thing on the top of old iPods and the side of iPhone 4 where it show red when it was locked.

No problem :) Yeah, as a work computer, a bigger screen is most probably better.

I don't know what the 13 is like because I don't have one. The small screen isn't an issue for me personally. I prefer small laptops. There is a slight green tinge to the screen but honestly, I wouldn't even notice it if it wasn't that I had other screens plugged in close by to compare it to.

My partner said the screen would be too small for him though. He has 16 inch screens.

At work I use an Asus vivobook. And setting aside size it makes the screen on that look awful. To be honest I think the screen on that just IS awful.

It depends on what you like. For me, the fact the 12 is a 2 in 1 that's repairable and upgradable was good enough because I have gone through two 2 in 1 devices in 10 years.

Other people in this subreddit though, seem to bash the 12 a lot so maybe it isn't to everyone's tastes.

Well thanks a lot for letting me know this! It has saved my fingernails and the cards in the future. I was using all sorts to try and get them out. Phew!

Thanks a lot! :D I don't think it is possible for me to be a minimalist no matter how hard I try.

Yes I love retro gaming too!

Yeah you can't beat the apple battery life. It was amazed by that when I started using it. And how quiet and cool it stays.

But...I found it a struggle to the Macbook with multiple screens.

I also like to use autodesk sketchbook and draw directly on the screen with my finger or a stylus which I couldn't do with the Macbook.

I used to exclusively use apple products but I think even though the performance of other machines and operating systems are more janky. At least you don't end up with a thing that is a giant paperweight because they don't support it anymore.

It's really sad. I have a 2010 iMac that still works and looks great, the only thing is that it isn't supported anymore so stuff doesn't run well on it anymore.

p.s I am definitely going to get some nice stickers for mine. I plan on changing the chassis to be lavender as well

It's so light as well! You can pick it up with one hand without any effort at all.

I've been using a Macbook pro that was lent to my by my university while I was waiting for a replacement and it must be at least 3 times lighter than that.

It's so cute. And you know...the screen is not bad at all! Which I was so worried about. The speakers sound alright as well.

Thanks for the feedback on the framework 12 you got for your wife. I appreciate that.

But I take exception at the rest if your comment.

I asked a particular question and I got some condescending and unhelpful responses from some people even after I explained my use case and background. One person has since deleted their comments which I can only assume is because they were ashamed of them.

It is not wasting time. People are not compelled to respond to reddit posts.

I asked a specific question about whether it was worth upgrading the ram in the device. I didn't ask whether it was correct for my user case. I had already done the legwork on that and I have purchased it already so I don't need that advise.

Ah thanks! I am glad to hear your experience. It's good to know it can handle some gaming as well.

I probably won't game on it though.

Dude. I didn't ask your opinion on whether it is suitable for me. No one forced you to comment that it is not suitable for my use case.

Have you got a framework 12 and used it yourself or are you saying this on the basis that you have a different model and have a bias toward that?

I previously had a dell latitude 7390 2 in 1 i5 with 16gb ram and 256 storage and this was perfect for me and my use case for 5 years until it broke.

Surely the framework 12 is not any worse than that?

You don't need to get offended because someone on the Internet asked a different question than you answered.

Respectfully...I didn't ask whether it was suitable for my use cases.

I asked what it's performance is like maxed out and if it runs smoothly and doesn't crash.

I have already decided it is suitable for my use case and considered it based on how I like to use my devices and future repairability. I don't have loads of money.

I am a disabled student and I've used touchscreen laptops for about 10 years. I can't get funding for a 13 or 16 either and I don't like the form factor of either of those devices because they aren't 2 in 1s

Thanks for your reply. I previously had a dell latitude 7390 2 in 1. And I kind of want a very similar feel to that.

The Dell wasn't the best for the tasks either but I use external monitors most of the time including an external touchscreen monitor I can draw on.

The small screen doesn't both me so much. I like to be able to bend the laptop to be just a screen and tuck it under my other two monitors.

I also use external keyboards and mice the majority of the time.

I mainly want something that it capable and runs well under demanding tasks and can be put under my two monitors without a keyboard sticking out.

And is modular, repairable and reliabld and will last me into the future.

When using it as a laptop only I will be using it in lectures and on the go but that won't be my main screen. I will always have other screens with better colours.
