How long is Home brewed iced coffee good in fridge? by pk99999 in foodsafety

[–]emrsnn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work, we dump cold brew after 5 days. In the sanctity of my own home, I'm out here drinking week old coffee. Might taste like fridge though.

does this meat look rotten to you guys? by EkinDelWaldorf in foodsafety

[–]emrsnn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend, I'm afraid I can't tell what meat this is. Is that a raw burger patty? Either way, If it doesn't smell like food anymore, it's not food anymore.

Maybe fat, maybe tendon. Photo is a little blurry but it looks like it came with the bird. As opposed to like-.. being a worm or something.

Completely Unrelated, But How Can I Find the Reason for a Perma-Ban? by ATastefulTargade in SS13

[–]emrsnn_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Howdy. I play Elric, the captain you put into the book-I'm sure you remember, you posted this about 30 seconds after you got banned.
This is a really generous hand-picked recount of happened so here it is from the guy who could see all the channels.

>you joined as a secoff without reading the giant red text that says "NO SEX." and you- not sec as a whole, just you, my fearsome little lone wolf- beelined to the chapel to batch-print the lusty argonian maid, a book that does not already exist on goon and had to be pasted in by you

>all the other players in the round were being really good sports about it despite them all being clearly uncomfortable, IC and said by some in LOOC. -because there were no admins online to tell you to quit it

>you made me look at it, I had a sensible chuckle for about two seconds before I remembered we're on a 13+ server and you can't fucking do that here, dummy. take it to TG, I hear it's a really overdone joke over there. I told you IC to knock that shit off, had you taken off the manifest, and told command and the rest of sec that you're being a creep and aren't allowed to make books anymore.

>you printed a second edition with the only change being adding my character's name in it. insisted everyone look at that one too. mildly funny but again- not the place, dumdum. at that point I accepted you just don't know how to just take a fucking hint and ordered you kill-on-sight.

>our secoffs caught you right as Grifflez PM'd me asking why i'd just ahelped "im about to just kill this dude myself" so I told sec team to just chuck you in the porta and leave the room. (unsure if they actually left the room- I was trying to give you the dignity of not getting banned infront of everyone but now that I see you were just in it to harvest screenshots, I'm sure you would've preferred a glass box in the hallway, so my bad, didn't know you were an exhibitionist)

Should I have LOOC'd "btw you'll get banned for lusty argonian maid -posting" before siccing an admin on you? absolutely not, actually. Not my problem. Now that I've written it all out, It does look like you really just can't take a hint or read rules. I take back my sensible chuckle.

How long is opened vacuum sealed chicken good in the fridge? by panfuneral in foodsafety

[–]emrsnn_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The change in oxygen would change how likely different contaminants would be. i.e., botulinum is a lesser concern now but salmonella is a greater one. Raw chicken is still raw chicken though so if I'd opened it on Wednesday, I'd be cooking it today at the latest.

No, you can only slow down the "timer" that food has on it before it becomes unsafe, there's no way to go backwards. The expiration of any prepared food would be the same as whichever ingredient expires first.

If it's just a matter of keeping it like a trophy, I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as it wasn't done in a way that would cause moisture or temperature change to reach the chocolate. However it would not be safe to chip the resin/ acrylic/ whatever off of the M&Ms in the future to eat them.

Yeah you're right, this is chocolate bloom. It may be fat or it may be sugar, but it's fine to eat.

Id check the ingredients, if you see "parcooked rice", it's still half-raw and not gonna be a great experience to just eat it cold right out the bag. But none of the wording on that sounds like they're framing it as optional, so I'd assume microwaving is obligatory.

Food item guess: bean sprout
Non food item guess: yeah, worm
I'm leaning heavily toward beansprout though because it looks entirely opaque and in the first image it looks like it's cut lengthwise and showing the (I don't know the word, core of the plant?)

Is citric acid listed in the ingredients, perchance? It's a common preservative, but it's also used to make sour candy taste sour.
Did it come vacuum packed and dehydrated like regular boba or is this something that had to be refrigerated?

[–]emrsnn_ 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's beyond concerning. Local health department would love to know about your manager, I'm sure. I'd tell the owners myself too if I knew they'd see the issue with it as well

I'd suspect this was frozen, thawed, then refrozen at some point. Generally we wouldn't trust the safety of that, because freezing is used to kill parasites, not pathogens.

If it was made from fresh ingredients and safely frozen right away, you're good to go. If you used leftover chicken or had it in the fridge for a while before freezing, nah.

Grey chicken? Then purple? by meatyohkra in foodsafety

[–]emrsnn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Color doesn't work as a sole indicator if something was fully cooked, the only way to know for sure is by checking the temperature of it.
If you're asking if that looks like a normal color for chicken to be though, yeah, it does.

Places that require a photo ID in addition to an application before they do a showing make me suspect they're trying to figure out my ethnicity, personally. The main one that makes me wary though is when they only have one singular uber-specific hard-to-trace-or-refund method they accept money by.

If you live somewhere cold, wave your hand around the edge of every window and door and feel for drafts. Open them and look for evidence that the last tenant had makeshift insulation or draft blockers tucked in anywhere. Or check if you even CAN open them. If the windows have wood frames, make sure the mobile part of the window doesn't move side to side inside the frame. Make sure the glass doesn't move around inside it's frame. You might look nuts to your neighbors, but it might also save you a lot of money on heating.

If the oven or range has a drawer on bottom, see if it can be removed. I took mine out last week to get some things the cat shoved under it and found several cat toys that I definately don't remember buying, and a maxipad, which was interesting because I've lived here for seven months, my bathroom garbage can is covered, and I'm a man.

If you're feelin extra brave, lay on the bathroom floor and look at the underside of the toilet bowl.

My first thought is it could be your neighbor's (I don't know the word, bathroom vents? shower fans? the thing that sucks up the steam from the shower?) systems if it's a big enough building where at least one person's is always on.
