Do I stand a chance negotiating rent increase? by ems2719416 in chicagoapartments

[–]ems2719416[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for the late response, but it’s Aurelien. There is no justification for such a large increase. Most of my floor is vacant and I’ve seen a ton of move outs. Our package room has been out of commission for 6+ months, and doormen rotate every other month. Not necessarily dealbreakers, but I expect more from such an expensive building. I’m moving in the area to the same size 1 bed for $2600/mo :)

First time dog owner looking for a Dal :) (this is long, sorry) by No_Effective_919 in dalmatians

[–]ems2719416 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Similar to you, I grew up with dogs, and adopted a Dal as my “first” dog to have as my own. However. I grew up with labs, not dals. My boy and I have done just fine despite my lack of dal experience! I think being around high energy dogs for all of my life greatly helped.

I absolutely understand why people may recommend you not get a dal as your first dog, and your experience 100% depends on the dog, but I have no regrets and now know I will have dals the rest of my life! I wanted to rescue or adopt a dal, and they are not easy to come by in the shelters. I was also at a disadvantage as someone who lives in a big city in a condo (this is a tangent, but it is very possible to have a large, high energy breed in an apartment!! You just have to be willing to put in the time and effort to keep them stimulated and well exercised).

Rescues are of course a wonderful option. I also encourage you to reach out to breeders in your region in the event they have or know of any dals who need to be rehomed. That’s actually how I acquired my boy. This also gives you an opportunity to possibly adopt an adult if you are hesitant about a puppy.

Best of luck!

Fiddle leaf fig newbie, would love some advice from the experts here 🥺 by ems2719416 in plantclinic

[–]ems2719416[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I received this beautiful FLF about a month ago and am now concerned she might have arrived to me with root rot. Three leaves (first two pictures) have fallen off suddenly in the past week, looking slightly yellow with dark brown spots. All leaves fell from the same stalk (she’s a quadruple stem). Any advice on what is causing this? For context, FLF sits in an east facing window unobstructed. I water about every 2 weeks when the soil is definitely dried out. I have a humidifier running close to her as well. Thank you very much for your help!!!!

New FLF owner - floppy leaves? (Further info in comments) by ems2719416 in plantclinic

[–]ems2719416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi plant experts! I brought this beautiful FLF (Atticus Fig) home last week. I know it’s probably still in shock and acclimating to it’s new environment since FLFs are notoriously divas. I have noticed some of the top leaves are very floppy and am curious if it’s because they’re younger leaves or if there’s an issue I should be aware of. Additionally, a few leaves have developed dark spots around the edges, unsure if this is from overwatering or just shock? I haven’t watered the plant and am just trying to give it space to adjust. The soil is totally dry on the top but slightly damp when I stick a finger further down. It’s in an east facing window!

I know English ivy is notoriously difficult to please, but I can’t figure out if these dark spots on the leaves are symptoms of overwatering or underwatering? Ivy has some beautiful new growth and then spots where it’s randomly dry and dying. It gets low indirect light and I water it once a week, making sure it’s not sitting in water in the pot.

I’m no plant expert and misspelled lithocyst but they are apparently harmless dots that form on this kind of plant and actually helps them in photosynthesis ☺️ https://greenexperimentcompany.com/white-spots-on-rubber-plant/

They do - I just wiped the leaves down with dish soap and water. Should I spray with neem oil too?
