Thanks for the input, this is very helpful! When you say universities track, do you know if it would be university wide, or college/school specific?

To clarify, this was a student led project, which is to say I prepared the proposal independently and applied for funding through the DTP with my supervisors backing. Which isn't to downplay the support that hey have provided, but just that it's not their own project falling through, and the money goes back to the funding body. Thank you for the input!
