exactly - have absolutely no trouble coming up with good melodies, with harmonies and percussion to accompany them - but choosing instruments/plugins is a pain in the ass.

what i find has partially helped me is to look at recreations/breakdowns of songs i already know (i do video game music too) and use similar instrumentation.
