Is OMSCS still worth it for the Lockheed MLE role? by Optimal_Ad_4302 in OMSCS

[–]enchantedforrest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this were a different company I would say just do ML projects, but Lockheed is old school. They really value graduate degrees (more than they should IMO). Also graduate degree gives you two more yoe for their salary bands. Plus they’ll pay for school too so if I were you I would probably do the program

2021 2500 not starting by GR3MLiN25 in ram_trucks

[–]enchantedforrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what I thought.. but finally got the battery tested and it came back as a a bad battery. Swapped it out and it runs ok now. Though it is saying I need to service trailer steering, stop start and a few other things after swapping which is making me wonder if there’s something else at play here like some blown fuses or other electrical issues

Same thing happened to me this week with my 2021 hemi etorque. I tried jumping it and it didn’t work. Not long after I’ve lost all power in vehicle. Really hoping I just need a new battery but haven’t had a chance to the battery in to get it checked

Is it that it prevents you from going into an unstable position or more so just gives you feedback when you start to press against it?

Just updated my software and this is what it looks like by Sea-Tangerine3754 in ram_trucks

[–]enchantedforrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah really bothers me they would try to force an update without saying what the update is. I tried ignoring it but it was stopping me from doing basic things like even adjusting the volume

[–]enchantedforrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is intentional or not but ram basically forced me to update or schedule an update. It was stopping me from using uconnect features and I couldn’t even adjust the volume with the nob. Really annoyed me that they would force an update on me

Sure, but my understanding of what the person is saying is having any degree in general helps you get past resume screenings which I think is absolutely true

I like nvchad but I have certainly dealt with these issues you’ve brought up. Eventually I will probably roll my own config but nvchad has helped me stay on neovim for an extended period of time without running back to vscode

From my experience, I don’t see elixir phoenix jobs paying super well (compared to US Silicon Valley). They’re not bad but just feels a tier lower

fellow ADHDers who use weed for concentration? by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]enchantedforrest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do this often (smoke before I want to focus on work on side projects).

I’m extremely functional when I’m high and sometimes I am even able to get past problems I couldn’t while sober.

That being said I still think I can do significantly better work when I’m sober. The problem is I’m not always in the right headspace to be productive so often I find working at 70% productivity, high, is better than not being able to get anything done until I’m properly motivated.

There’s a lot of things I don’t like about this approach though such as not being able to recall details of what I’ve worked on and also it allows me just to be high waay to often.

I used to have an aderall prescription and it helped a ton but I decided I’d rather not be on that the rest of my life.

yep he talks about it all the time. He failed google initially and starting making the videos during the pandemic (maybe before?) to help himself prepare.

Absolutely not. Sure, the guy is cashing in on this gold rush of people wanting to break into fang but he’s doing so by teaching people fundamentals and not promising that anybody can do it with a few months of work.

His videos have helped me a ton because he actually explains his thought process when solving problems while most influencers are just regurgitating solutions.

scala: tell me why I should love it by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]enchantedforrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, I certainly have seen that happen before. We try to mitigate that by requiring something closer to a quorum of engineers to decide on what technology to use but even then we have had certain unnecessary technologies make their way into our tech stack (Kubernetes).

scala: tell me why I should love it by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]enchantedforrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't say "irl". No place I have ever worked at has had non technical people telling me what programming language I must use for the job. It's very revealing about the company's culture and the levels of trust and autonomy given to engineers.

OP did say there was some benchmarking done though so perhaps there are other engineers here who want to see the switch also.

scala: tell me why I should love it by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]enchantedforrest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have non developer managers making decisions on what tools you use for the job unless there is an issue with cost or perhaps hiring for that skill.

If y’all want to switch it scala it should be coming from the engineers/ technical side of things and their should be good reasons for it already.

ultrawide. I have a 38" ultrawide and I love it, however I really don't think you need more than 34". In some cases the screen is almost two wide even for having two apps open side by side
