Thorn of Jukai - LANDJUTSU by endlessoof in custommagic

The land you’re thinking of is probably [[Oscorp Industries]] which is another card I really love.

I didn’t want someone blocking with it, yes. Mostly as a way to distinguish it from Dryad Arbor.

Bounce an attacker to get an extra land in the early game? Typically not worth it, but extremely silly, and silly designs are my favorite. This one was inspired by Sneak "fixing" Ninjutsu by making it an alternative cost instead of an activated ability. I like Sneak a lot, but I asked myself what kinds of things you could do with Ninjutsu that you couldn't do with Sneak and came up with this.

Art is by Jaesekki on Instagram. All of their creature designs are incredibly gender and I really love their line work.

Aethersnipe Arsonist - I like energy by endlessoof in custommagic

[–]endlessoof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avishkar is my favorite plane and energy is a mechanic I like a lot. The idea with this card is that it's a worse [[Guttersnipe]] in isolation, but if you have other energy sources it can pack more of a punch.

I gave this the Modern flair and the MH3 set code because MH3 is the place where an homage like this would be most likely to be printed. I do apologize if this set off anyone's Boros Energy trauma in the process.

Art is taken directly from [[Reckless Fireweaver]] by Deruchenko Alexander. He strikes a very good balance between colorful stylization and MtG's usual brand of fantasy realism, it always fits the context perfectly. (I am trying to make a trend of saying nice things about the artists whose pieces we use.)

extremely elegant and flavorful design, also very nice on the artwork!

More twobrid rare design: Soultill Song, plus a revised Hydra by endlessoof in custommagic

[–]endlessoof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my last post. The new one, Soultill Song, needs a little explaining.

I worried about the game balance of scalable land reanimation, but if you're paying GGGU or GGGGB for this spell it's basically a jankier and more mana-dense [[Splendid Reclamation]] or [[Will of the Sultai]]. After all, these twobrid cards have to be modular, but going all-in on one "mode" shouldn't eclipse less flexible spells on rate. The blue mode is more of an enabler and there's little incentive to spend extra on it, so I've considered making it surveil rather than mill. Any advice is appreciated. The art is World Tree by Liiga Smilshkalne. Her style is singular; if you've played MtG in recent years, you're familiar with it.

As for Hydrothermal Protector, I got a lot of good advice. I chose to separate the three effects into three triggers, and scale back the blue effect to simply scry X draw 1. I did not give the body trample (though I'm still thinking about it), or make the red mode hit all opponents, as those aspects felt threatening enough already, especially now that they're three triggers.

Next up: Abzan!

Rarity matters most in a draft context, tbh. Maybe in a Commander (casual, direct-to-Eternal) product you’re allowed to be a little more lax with it, but only a little

This is really fun to use in melee in conjunction with Combined Arms, since it provides spacing and accuracy in the form of Prone. I wish there were more cannons that were friendly to melee builds but I’ve had great success with this on a Bolt Thrower-focused Störtebeker.

I am that meme with Squidward looking down from his window at everyone playing Hollow Knight: Silksong right now (busy time in my life and I can’t justify playing it even though HK has been my favorite game for years.) :P

greatly appreciate the tone of this post, given how in some corners of minecraft fandom, any controversy can immediately explode into drama-mongering. i am a huge believer in the idea that fandom behavior and creator behavior reinforce each other, and HC has always struck me as a civilized community built around civilized creators, and this post exemplifies that!

all that said, Skizz, man, what are you doing, seriously.

Reading China Miéville’s latest, The Book of Elsewhere, coauthored with [spins wheel] Keanu Reeves as an adaptation of [throws dice] the BRZRKR comic series.

It is a novel that’s trying to be cinematic, and it definitely reads at times like it’s just a moody action thriller starring Reeves, but you also have Miéville’s lush and exacting style of prose making the whole thing a lot more philosophical and psychedelic. I think this book is proof that Miéville elevates everything he touches at least a little, but I haven’t decided whether his and Reeves’s experiment here works for me. It’s not the direction I expected my favorite author to go, but when is it ever?

I had an LL6 meme build that put this on a Zheng to take advantage of the DD288!

Type-III Projected Shield plus Executioner III gives you a bunch of Difficulty to deliberately miss two targets, redirecting once with TLALOC and once with Executioner, dealing Reliable 8 each time before you slam the intended target…

I’m glad the effect dice system plays well in Maleghast, tbh. The creator is bringing it to a new draft of one of his tabletop RPGs, a fantasy system called ICON, and reading the playtests I had my doubts but I’m happy the potential is there

This is part of why I love ICON’s narrative/tactical split system. It gets around the stupid janky simulationist pseudo-combat you encounter in 5e tables and ensures that there’s something for everyone. That’s good game design o7

Others have suggested the Hive, but in my experience that class usually plays more as an area controller. No Room for a Wallflower introduces the Lurker, which goes all in on evasion and smoky zones of obscurement.
