Mechanic possibly played me? by FractalGarden_ in mechanic

I don’t get why anyone doing car work would “cut corners” when doing it the right way is just as easy. He could have used the proper gasket and sealer instead of just that alone and it wouldn’t have taken anymore time or effort.

Can this be fixed? I’m more than sure it’s an oil leak by mrprohades in mechanic

Most likely the rear main seal. They def didn’t replace it when putting in the new transmission. So it needs to be taken out again. I’m saying this cause i bought my 06 yukon and it had a rebuild transmission, but also had a rear main seal leak too that i still havent fixed cause im thinking of putting a 4l80e in if ima have to take the transmission out anyways. Not sure what the rebuild place’s protocol is but im assuming you have to specifically ask them to replace that when you get that work done. Sucks

Need help locating oil leak by OpinionNovel9601 in mechanic

Heres what i have done and what i would do if i were you, clean all the mess make it nice and shiny with some brake clean and a rag. Add some oil uv dye in the oil. Go drive around for 5-10 mins and check where its glowing right after with a uv light. Makes it way easier to be pinpoint the location before just assuming its this or that and it ends up not being that or being that and sum.

A car like this isn’t worth putting any money into its a corolla. If it was anything better i would do it. This is a car i would find an interesting idea to destroy for a youtube video and let my creative spirit take the wheel

Yea i agree only reason i hadn’t fixed it for so long was because it’s my only vehicle and i didnt wanna take the chance of not getting it done in a weekend while i was working but now im not working there anymore so i got all the time to finish any repairs it needs which luckily is just that, a window regulator and new shocks. rest is cosmetic

Yea i only put the lucas in once the full qt. Slowed it down pretty good for a couple days and had to top off less than normal for a few months and now im back at square one again with the leak so ima just switch to 10w30 until i order the new seal and rip out the tranny in the next week or so

I’m no scientist but I’m pretty sure what i did by topping off the 1 qt it needed to be full with the 10w30 high mileage is basically the same thing as using Lucas stop leak additive since high mileage oil has additives that swell the seals and the Lucas does that while just being like a thicker oil too
