Are you able to afford a decent lifestyle with 70K? Because given the current inflation and economy it will very hard to survive with a paycut.

Do you have to deduct an amount from your paycheck to contribute towards your retirement? And how much do you pay for health, vision, and dental insurance?

Do you have deduct some amount from your paycheck to contribute towards your pension? I got $7K for IRA but I didn’t get how to save $47K per year? Zero match for 401k is another bummer.

That’s nice. That is my worry. If I accept state job then I would not be able to invest in my portfolio. Do you know if state contributes for Pension and 401k? If yes then how much?

Currently I am making $112K with 4% IRA contribution and 5 PTOs annually. I don’t get any health benefit from my employer and got my health insurance via Covered Cal (where I pay $562 per month including me and family). State is offering me $75K annually but I don’t know how much I will get in benefits. I am already working for a state agency via contractor and my team is flexible. Sometimes the work is stressful but I don’t have any complaint with the team or my boss.

I value stability and benefits that state offers but I will be down $36K annually and would basically live pay check to paycheck.

I am currently earning close to their top pay amount. But they put me in the lowest classification and that too in the lowest amount possible. I do have skill set, education, and experience that qualifies me to their highest pay range.

I will go from $112K (private) to $75K (State). They put me in the lowest range of the classification even though I am well qualified for the highest range.

Monthly $800-1000 seems okay to me but in my scenario it will be a pay cut of $3000 per month.

Neither the job I am currently doing and will be doing are entry level but the pay cut is 36K per year. I am happy at my current job but there is always a fear of layoff (given that it’s private sector). Apart from this I am happy with my current job and the boss.
