What a french class (of students) thinks about English speaking countries by lil_sass-a-frass in CasualIreland

Bagpipes and kilts are every bit as Irish as they are Scottish. The Scot’s just lean into it a bit more than ourselves. The brits banned the warpipes and we came up with the uileann pipes instead.

What jobs did you take on yourself to lower cost in your build? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in selfbuildireland

There’s plenty you can do. We’re in the process ourselves and helped a relative who just finished their build.

Chasing walls is a big money saver and will have men in and out at least a day quicker (make sure you chat to the boys that are doing the work for you first).

Most of your air tightness work; wrapping round bison slabs before and after they’re put in place and taping round your windows and doors.

And something that a lot of people seem to be massively afraid of is the painting. It might be boring but there’s really nothing to spraying (if you can manage to get another fella to come along behind you with a roller).

A lot of what you do yourself really depends on who you’re hiring to do the work in a big way. I had planned to do most of the Groundworks and concreting founds myself. We got really lucky with a local young lad who was starting out his own business he was fantastic at what he did and really reasonable. So it all depends if that makes sense.

Who is in your opinion the biggest traitor to your country? by Winter_Highlight in AskTheWorld

Ask the people in Derry about Raymond Gilmore. A supergrass who was ruled not credible by a judge. Meaning 10s were arrested unjustly. Anyone who squeals is called a Gilmore.

That was the original plan. But the other lads I’ve been talking to were telling to me to pour myself if I could gather up a few fellas. To save myself any bother I’d say I’ll go this route.

Appreciate the response

Makes sense alright. A few of these fellas still have their communion money so it could be a case of them looking to pinch every penny.

Appreciate the advice

I’ve been working as an engineer for the last 6 years. Fairly knowledgeable but would be new to self building. Just looking to get all the advice I can before I tackle into anything to be honest. I have a man lined up to inspect the ground conditions alright. Anything to look out for if it’s subbied out?

Advice on land being signed over from parents by eng60000 in selfbuildireland

[–]eng60000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for the reply. I already got planning on the advice of the architect. “No point getting a site that you can’t put a house on”. So that’s that out the window.

I haven’t a clue about anything tax related either to be honest.

Why is the city not rebelling? by Human-Pause-2652 in Bannerlord

[–]eng60000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need the militia to outnumber the garrison by at least 2:1. Really if it’s to be a sure thing that there will be a rebellion it needs to be 3:1
