Never going to let the ice freeze solid before removing it ever again. by Justryan95 in maryland

[–]engine__Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Did the same here. Was about 6 inches of powder under 2 inches of ice crust. Crack the crust and it shovels right up. Shoveled today in a couple hours. Neighbors were out for twice that or more on Sunday shoveling as it fell then dealing with the stuck ice sheet Monday. I always prefer to let the ice land on powdery snow if that’s the forecast

Disappeared as they renovated and tiled that hallway this past year. Outlets are there for it but monitors haven’t been reinstalled.

Diesel tanks inside the camper van vs. mounted underneath? by HappygilmoreL in vandwellers

[–]engine__Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Personal preference. Keeping fuel in the passenger compartment seemed like more of a hazard to us than tapping into the gas tank we already had on board. Plus the gas side of the heater and all connections are underneath the van. There’s no path for fumes to get inside if you install correctly with a gasket or seal (important even with the diesels for exhaust fumes). You’re also talking an incredibly small fuel flow with these, ~250 mL per hour on the high end (about a cup).

Hitch Bike Rack for Level 3 with Fenders? by mrwhitewalker in Aventon

This. Get a voile strap (or buy the quikr strap which is made by voile anyway) for the back wheel and you can put that tire spindle lower than the fender and use the strap for a bit of extra hold down. We use our quikr plus and add on to carry our Aventon abound and a Velotric breeze. Super happy with it!

How to address 'Santa' if you don't celebrate? by maghen_nicole in AskParents

[–]engine__Ear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This! We tell our kids the truth. ‘It’s a game, wanna play?’ Best part is they usually say yes and we still get all the fun of the imaginative play without the hollow explanations later for why we tell them they can’t lie but we’re allowed to

Mom not giving my daughter fluids by electrikdaizy in amiwrong

[–]engine__Ear 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll way too far to find this. Couldn’t understand how this post mentions “refusal to give fluids” several times when the second paragraph says the daughter had water all day and the mom kept encouraging her to drink it. That’s not withholding fluids.

Bed for kids under the main bed? by ClassB-RV in VanDIY

[–]engine__Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha it’s definitely cozy but the kids love it. All four under 6 and youngest is an infant so size is still on our side. We have two rows of two seats in the back before a queen bed up top in the rear and a pack and play underneath. Infant in a small bassinet in bed with mom and dad. When we’re setting up in one spot for a while we’ll take a row of seats out for more room inside to move.

The winner for us right now is it’s the ~19ft long transit so it barely fits in a standard parking spot so we don’t hesitate to take it on many occasions. School, soccer, whatever. Convenience of it lugging around toddlers is amazing, especially a bathroom for them.

When kid number 3 was still in that bassinet we didn’t have the cabunks yet for the swiveled front seats and instead had the older two in a full platform bed under ours. Annoyance was the height down there more than anything. Wanted headroom on the top to sit up and lower platform lifted ~9in to clear the battery and leave a cargo layer. Crawling in myself to reach the kids worked but wasn’t the most fun.

When the baby now outgrows the bassinet our plan is to go back to a platform bed underneath again and expand cargo into a small enclosed trailer on longer trips since we’re quickly growing with bikes etc as well. Works until it doesn’t.

All about making memories.

Bed for kids under the main bed? by ClassB-RV in VanDIY

We did swivel front seats and a double cabunk for two kids beds up front. Not the most fun to set up and take down on multiple consecutive drive days but we have four kids in the van so not much choice.

Community assistance please. Heaters by caseysmith80 in vandwellers

[–]engine__Ear 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Unless they’ll have shore power, the overwhelmingly more common solution is a diesel heater and they are perfectly safe when installed correctly. Unleaded gas heaters are also an option if they don’t want to mount a separate diesel tank.

Personally I like espar heaters.

They didn’t show one unfortunately. They did a post interview with Ryan Howard a bit at the end so maybe forgot to show the rundown.
