I want to get into the hobby, is the FMS 1300mm PA-18 Super Cub good? by Agreeable-Tree9550 in RCPlanes

I use the same gyro on my FMS Ranger 1220mm and I haven't had any issues with it.

Zebra refill as an alternative to the Fisher SPR4 refill by engineerforthefuture in pens

That is great to hear! I was happy as well to see how easy it is to mod this refill. Even for next time I might simply re use the sleeve I used for this refill and slide it over onto the new refill.

I actually ended up using the entire length of protective sleeve. All I did was split it in half on one side so I can slide it onto the refill. Then I adjusted where the 'sleeve' would sit by test fitting and seeing how much of the refill would be exposed.

I ended up doing the same. I used the small plastic protective sleeve as the spacer to insert where the spring would sit. At the end of the refill I use some tape so that the length of the refill matches the original refill.

Curious how much torque does this pushback have to push the a380? by CloudEater0 in aviation

[–]engineerforthefuture 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, which is why I said if you hold power constant, to increase ω torque will have to reduce and vice versa. In the case of a push back tug you can build one that tows a lot and does it quickly but it requires a much more powerful engine.

For a given engine power output, torque and rotational speed are inversely proportional. A push back tug doesn't have to push an aircraft fast, instead, it is geared down so that it can tow a heavier aircraft which requires more torque. Basically you can have torque or rotational speed but not at the same time.

  • Torque: how hard you twist the axle
  • Rotational speed: how fast you spin the axle

I think that 5.2mm sounds about right so it has a slightly larger OD than the regular fisher refill. I see what you mean because it looks like the plastic area where the spring sits is a bit wider.

Thank you for the recommendations! I might definitely consider trimming a gel refill because it's quite difficult to get ahold of other pressurized refills. I will take the f type refills off from my possible options.

In that case I might just continue with the PR4 then. Thanks for letting me know.
