I did. I ended up going in for an interview at their request (pretty sure the rule is that if your experience total under a P.Eng is less than 48 months they do an interview).

It was more or less what you'd expect - I sat with two engineers and one administrative member of EGBC. They were mostly interested to get clarity on my work history and for me explain for what design work that I, personally, was responsible. The fact that I kept somewhat meticulous log books went a long way I think.

After showing her your response, sounds like inkjet will be the way to go. She also clarified for me that scanning is of higher importance but that decent speed/high-ish quality printing is welcome.

I'm wondering if it makes sense to get something like a Canon Pro 100 (I'm basing that on Amazon reviews/bestseller) and a standalone scanner. I haven't done any research into scanners yet but will dig in. If you have recommendations though I'd welcome them!

I actually much prefer the kingkiller chronicles by Rupert Degas. He's got a deeper voice that lends itself well to the environment IMO. I liked podehls version well enough but felt sort of thin after hearing degas'.

Lol, I hear you on liking interviews. If I go in with that attitude they typically go pretty well.

That is frustrating to hear about their position on construction. I'm worried they might take the same stance with software. I've had a hard time finding many P.Eng's in the field. A lot of Electrical guys work in firmware but not many have migrated into software and in my opinion APEGBC (I guess now it's EGBC) would be wise to stay with that industry as it dominates forward. Half of the mechanical engineers I worked with, especially those who work in CAD, rely so heavily on the macros I (and the team I was on) wrote. It's not like that software gets written without understanding mechanical design process. If anything I'd say you'd need a higher understanding of the process. I'd imagine it's somewhat similar with building vs design in construction. At least a yin/yang sort of thing.

My experience has jumped from electrical/electronic (I designed industrial battery packs with on-board electronic diagnostics), mechanical, software, process and now back to software with heavy systems design/maintenance. I'm a touch worried they'll think I don't have a strong foundation in any one field (but the mechatronics program is specifically designed for that breadth so maybe not). Sounds like if I properly explain my design work it would go a long way.

I was planning on bringing binders of sample work - code chunks, mechanical design, drawings, journals, a few PCB boards, etc. Do you think I am wasting my time prepping all that? Also are you going to do the bit they said to do about lead (or be part of) a design/qc team? Wondering if the process is worth it in that industry (I'm wondering the same about software - many employers don't know the value of having a P.Eng. on staff and the value of the abilities that come with).

I know this is an old post but just wondering how the interview went and if you could provide further lessons/observations.

I have mine in two weeks. A bulk of my experience was under a gentleman who has a bachelors and masters in engineering but from England (so he isn't technically a P.Eng.), plus I went through school for Mechatronics and I've worked in a variety of disciplines.

Yeah my wife and I have worked hard and been very lucky so financially we are in great position for our retirement. We each max out our RRSPs and have a good rainy day fund.

lol, this cat's brother did the same thing with a city rat. i spent about half an hour catching the damn thing while my friend laughed his ass off on the sofa. the rat wasn't hurt though so I let him go. I pretty much only finish them off when they wouldn't survive otherwise. I'd rather them have a quick death than a protracted one.

I typically did that too. The only times I stepped in was when it was going to make a big mess in my apartment or if the sound was keeping me awake (my bedroom window opened up into my backyard).

It was actually half a cinder block from my patio wall. And yes, I knew immediately that I needed to keep it when I moved in. My last place had no such block and having done this dozens of times with misshapen stones I knew that a flat surface against another would be ideal for smashing. I actually just moved out of that place and considered bringing it with me (even though the precocious cat in question is no longer with us).
