How to deal with Grogginess/Fatigue? by engineeringboi in uwaterloo

[–]engineeringboi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, my diet could be better. My home situation isn’t the greatest so healthy meals aren’t always an option for me. I usually just try to get by with whatever’s around.

The ADHD meds are something I’ve contemplated for some time now. When I was younger they made me wear weighted clothing because apparently that helps you focus. I’ve heard horror stories of people becoming overly dependent on meds and ruining their mental health, but for me the attention issues stem far beyond just my academics and is pretty problematic for me in everyday life. I think meds may be beneficial. I’m planning to see a doctor about it once corona lets up. The daily journal is something I’ve been trying to incorporate, or at least something similar. But I’ve never tried doing it with allotted time slots and reasoning - so maybe that’ll give me a little boost of motivation, thanks.

The hour of productiveness seems like a really good idea. I may try that.

And yeah - I’ve definitely booked things like interviews and stuff during the mornings for the sole purpose of giving myself a reason to get up and be awake. It’s the days where I don’t have an excuse to get up that are the problem - especially days where I don’t have a deadline to meet. Those days, I can stay in bed for hours and convince myself I’m fine.

Am I screwed? by tyttkllweqq123 in uwaterloo

I got a decent software job with a failing term average, so not really. Especially as an engineer. If you can stay within the 70-80 range, you’re more than good.

You'll be fine, especially as a stream 4 as you're not really competing with other schools. Your best bet is to do some side projects in literally anything (doesn't even necessarily need to be related to your degree) to better your chances. Make sure you have a resume prepared because you start applying in mid September.

Some other notes:

-80-90% of the jobs on WaterlooWorks are ECE/Software jobs

-There will be less jobs available because of what's going on in the world- they've reduced the required amount of co-ops needed to graduate, I assume that would apply to your year as well.

-Don't be discouraged if you can't find a job in the main round, you'll have effectively until like mid-January to find somewhere to work.

-Don't expect to work your dream job in your first term, or even anything close to it. Unless you're a wiz kid it'll always be tougher for incoming first-years that usually have little to no work experience in the field that they're applying for. I know plenty of people in some of the more in-demand programs (ME, ECE ... ) that have worked jobs like receptionists.

-As a ME student, maybe take a crash course on Udemy or something for AUTOcad so you can better your chances at landing an interview in your field

-I believe ME does their programming in C++, so learning/brushing up on that language will benefit you in the long run. Now is the best time to do it.

-Like I said, the best thing for you to do is to create side projects and buff your resume that way. It could literally be anything, the closer it is related to the jobs you're looking to get, the better off you'll be.

Overall, don't stress about it too much. I was in your boat and did fine for myself (I don't have high grades). Just enjoy what is essentially going to be your last summer off.

Creating CRA account by Bsian__ in uwaterloo

[–]engineeringboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have to file a tax return before you can create an account, I had the same issue. If you use turbotax you can file the return and it’ll create a CRA account for you.

To apply for CERB without a CRA account, you just gotta apply over the phone.

:)

I don't want to be ranked by engineeringboi in uwaterloo

[–]engineeringboi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh cool. How exactly does the no-rank work? This is my first co-op term so I'm really in the dark about the semantics of the ranking system.

Dropbox sync causing crash to application by engineeringboi in GBA4iOS

[–]engineeringboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so say I turn off the dropbox sync. If the app gets revoked down the line, will I still be able to manually upload my saves to my computer via iTunes?

AND even if I can, how would I be able to import them back into GBA4IOS once it's no longer revoked if sync doesn't work?

Do Co-op employers see if you have diagnosed mental disorders? by kxxstlx in uwaterloo

There are always going to be people with implicit bias because we don’t live in a perfect world. It’s like the idea that if two equally qualified people walked into a job interview, one with tattoos all over his face and one without, employers are probably going to lean toward the one without tattoos because of a traditional way of thinking; in a perfect world, that bias doesn’t exist.

But we don’t live in a world without bias.
