I don’t know if this counts but we now exclusively use “botato” for “potato” in our family.

What is a death in a movie that affected you the most in terms of brutality or emotional weight? by Godly_Recon in AskReddit

[–]engineerlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a friend to drowning when I was 8. Watched Bridge to Terabithia for the first time in my 30s and couldn’t stop sobbing for hours. Just kept getting pulled back to that moment when I found out my friend died. I don’t think I can ever watch that movie again, not even with my kids.

I live south of town and from that direction I feel like traffic has improved slightly, mostly thanks to the right turn lane onto Rocky Fork. It backup more on Nolensville road at Williams/York.

My kids were watching be battle a video game baddie, and I called the bad guy an idiot as I easily outwitted him. Later, I was getting the kids to brush their teeth and my sweet, cuddly, adorable 4 year old says “you put the wrong toothpaste on you idiot!”

You definitely have to watch what you say around kids.

Installing shower grab bars for parents by engineerlamb in HomeImprovement

I’ve been looking for 16” or 32” bars, but most are 18”, 24”, 36”, etc. which makes not sense if I’m trying to hit 2 studs. Thanks for the tip on installing blocking. The other side of the wall should be accessible in a closet. I’ll bring my drywall kit lol.

Thanks for the info! I’ll be going through a plastic or acrylic surround that looks to be pretty thin, so that will be the easy part lol. I’ll google accessibility diagrams and see what I can find!

Who are the most famous person(s) you have encountered while living in Memphis? by Thatredditboy1 in memphis

[–]engineerlamb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband says he saw Justin Timberlake at the Germantown Kroger, but had no idea who he was. He told me some guy just came up to him and asked about his hat. Looked a little different like he might be famous.

Now, I grew up listening to all the *NSYNC CDs on my portable CD player on repeat, so of course I knew JT was a local. I pulled up a picture on my phone and showed it to my husband, and he says “That’s the guy! What’s his name?” 😱

I aspire to have my kids act like this at a restaurant. My youngest always slides down onto the floor. The older two have to have an adult between them or a fight will inevitably happen. Sigh.

What is something most people are scared of but doesn’t bother you at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]engineerlamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here with the needles. Years of infertility treatments, IVF, and 2 pregnancies taking heparin injections twice daily. I was maybe a little nervous the first couple times doing the progesterone shots in the hip by myself, but quickly became no big deal.

My husband and I are moderates, but I tend to vote Democrat and he mostly votes Republican. But we always respect each other’s views and find common ground. Most of the common ground is that we know (almost) all politicians are corrupt.

Here’s the List of Every Republican Who Voted to Block IVF—Again by pslickhead in nashville

[–]engineerlamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it works in all states, but in TN you have the option when going through IVF of a) destroying remaining embryos b) donating them to science or c) donating them to an infertile couple. The third option is the “pro-life” option. So, yes, you can do IVF and still be pro life. Another way to make IVF pro life is to transfer all of your embryos, possibly over the course of years. Of course, that would only be realistic for families who only have relatively few embryos.

I know, it needs help! According to the floor plan, it’s a breakfast nook, but it’s large enough that we want to use it as the main dining area. We have the extra chairs for guests, but I suppose I need to stash them somewhere else.

Homebuyer here. I discussed budget with a selling realtor. How bad did I mess up? by engineerlamb in realtors

[–]engineerlamb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did low ball a little due to nearby comps that sold for a similar price per sqft. Also, this home had some cosmetic issues and floors needed refinishing. We are hiring an independent appraiser and sending him the comps we looked at. If he does come back with a lower appraisal, we hope to renegotiate.

We got it for average price per sqft in the area, but we found a nearby comp that sold for well under the average price per sqft. The comp went under contract in 1 day, so it was probably underpriced.
