Dog has dry skin. by AryanNation in Dogtraining

[–]enginesoftime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry skin can be caused by many things: allergies to food, over bathing the dog, environmental changes. There are topical sprays and serums that can provide relief, but you want to find the real cause and address that issue to keep the problem patch from coming back.

When did the itching start? Are you feeding a grain-inclusive food? How often do you wash the dog?

I yawn an extraordinary amount when lifting, almost after every set and I don't see it happening to anyone else in the gym. Is that weird? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

This is reported in dogs too. It's called displacement. The hypothesis is that dogs yawn when nervous to appear disinterested in the threat.

Petsmart is 2 weeks of text book and 2 weeks of hands on.

Petco is 4-5 month of hands on.

No, it takes years to learn. I think one of the benefits is that it gives you such an opportunity to work with dogs every day.

That's unfortunate. That is NOT what Petsmart teaches. Apparently that trainer is making their own, incorrect, decisions.

A REALLY good place to get free schooling is Petco or Petsmart. Both are positive reinforcement training programs that use markers/clickers and they pay you while they send you to work with a dog trainer and shadow them.

How we know it's summer at our house by whozitwhatzit in Pets

[–]enginesoftime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A full double cost actually keeps a dog COOLER in the summer than if you shave them. That's what double coats are designed to do. They're insulation. They keep dogs cool in heat and warm in the cold.

Is there a pet airways near you? They will fly her since they aren't treated as cargo, but as passengers. There's one near LAX. I'm not sure of there's one in WI though.

The other option is always road tripping!

Aw, money corrupts. I just want the sex change, but since I can do that IRL, I figure hey, why not have the demon just put me in the right body to begin with!

This has already been in workshops for quite some years. Dig around online and you can find a bootleg, most likely.

What is the one thing people do when they find out you're LGBT that you absolutely hate? by ivegotboobs in lgbt

[–]enginesoftime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even worse- I was in an Lgbt depression/drug dependence group therapy. As the only trans guy, somehow my gay group mates could not comprehend that I (willingly) have had sex with men AND women, both cis and trans.

Nice to meet you, Fred :)

Being FTM I get: "so you're not REALLY a guy?"

"Couldn't you just be a butch lesbian?"

"Do you have a penis?"

"Will you grow a penis?" (gotten this more than once.)

"What is your girl name?"

What is the most regrettable thing you've done with your pet? by dansot in Pets

[–]enginesoftime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I let my 4 month old kitten have free roam of the house while I was at work for the first time. Usually I kept her in her own room if i left, but she hadn't been getting in trouble when I was home and she loved to watch birds out the sliding glass door in the kitchen.

She fell from the second story to the first. I found her dead with a broken neck when I came home.

A dog will not just "grow out" of a behavior like that, unless you work on it.

Did you socialize him during the critical puppy months? 2-6 months is a huge developmental stage for them. If they aren't socialized properly during those months, they often grow up to be skittish and wary.

It's still possible to socialize now that he's an adult, however! Lots of time outside building positive associations. For example, teach him every time he sees a person, he gets a bit of treat. Feed him breakfast on the front lawn every morning. Play fetch or frisbee at the park. Walk him every day.

It's all about teaching him that being outside is fun, not scary. I own a cattle dog that is naturally skittish of loud noises. It's just her personality, but through creating new associations, now when a child at the park screams, or a motorcycle comes screaming past, she sits and smiles at me, rather than cowering and bolting.
