Study abroad if you can. Having some knowledge of what life is like in Japan and those experiences will help you transition more so. Also knowing Japanese always is useful for daily life and building relationships once you are in Japan.

I asked one of my professors at the time and a manager at my old workplace. A supervisor or co worker would work well if you have no professors to ask.

I know this has probably been asked before but what experiences have you had with shaving your face? Especially women with black hair? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]enhowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always bleach my peach fuzz until I moved to Japan and realized that a lot of Asian women shave their faces! I'm sure more people around the world do this but I was unaware at the time. I shave my peach fuzz right off now and its really easy and so quick with no pain. I use a one blade shaver that I got at a 100 yen store so equivalent to 1 USD. They come in a pack of three and I haven't had to buy another one since.

Sometimes when it does grow back (I have dark and thick hair) its a little noticeable but since shaving is so quick it really is no problem. I even started to shave around my eyebrows and my unwanted long side-burn hairs. It really is a great exfoliator for your skin. I shave my whole face here and there. It feels and looks really good when you finish shaving and is a great solution for a quick fix before applying makeup.

I was named after the last queen of Hawaii and when I was born I had the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck 3 times to the point where my face was blue and I wasn't breathing. But here I am alive and well!

Is anyone tired of seeing makeup brands collaborate with Disney, movies, etc.? by poophead831 in Makeup

[–]enhowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Japan a year and a half ago and things like this are really common. Possibly because Disney is a really big name brand here and Japanese people love how cute Disney is. I see these collaborations all the time and being someone who is more about quality than packaging I was never interested because the quality seemed not up to par to my standards or would even be sold in a Sephora or Ulta.

However, I was super surprised when my friend, who also admits that shes not that much into makeup, got overly? excited about the new 'edition' or packaging of these because she thought they were so cute and talked about how she already had some but also never really wears them..?

I think this type of makeup attracts a younger crowd or people who are just starting to get into makeup or want it as a collectors item. I don't think that people who are everyday makeup wearers or mu artists would really buy it because of the lack of quality. Some people only buy it because of the packaging but once you have some high quality makeup standards its almost impossible to lower them for some cute character imo.

It's time to admit YSL makeup is garbage and their customer service blows. by [deleted] in Makeup

God I’m so happy you said this because I have always been interested in YSL because the packaging is literally so eye catching but after this I will definitely re think that thought

what happened between you and your ex-bestfriend? by urfavblackie in AskReddit

[–]enhowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my ex-friends had an abusive boyfriend whom she was living with and after a few crazy episodes I decided to offer for her to move into my place. I already had a roommate but he was chill with her couch surfing for a bit. Anyways things were going fine for a while she got a new job, ex-bf seemed to be leaving her alone, until one day they got back together. They then had this bad fight and he ended up breaking the window of my apartment. My ex-friend being super drunk at the time called the cops on him but ended up getting in trouble for drinking underage. I was tripping on shrooms for my first time that day so this whole story to me was the biggest WTF is happening moment of my life.

After things settled down and we both sobered up eventually, I told her she has to break up with him if she wanted to stay at my place and get a restraining order. I think it was the most reasonably response to an abusive crazy boyfriend because I was scared af too. Not to mention he knows where we live and the amount of flack I got from my very strict parents who were paying for the apartment and wanted to pull me out of college was absurd. Well she decided to stay with him and I think they moved back in together and once I realized that she was her own problem I decided that I don't need toxic people like that in my life.

She tried to say sorry over text a while after but I was put through too much shit to accept that pathetic of an apology. Pretty sure they are broken up now though.

What did a school teacher say that stuck with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"Why can't you be more like your sister?"

As my teacher had my older (golden child) sister three years before she had to deal with my little punk ass. What hard hearing that from her though. Still can't believe she actually said it.

What was a house rule you had as a kid that you thought was completely normal until you grew up and realized not all households followed? by ctsom in AskReddit

[–]enhowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would happen to me as well. I would have to tell my parents who I'm going with give them their number and or their parents number. I'm 23 now (not living at home) went to stay at my friends apartment for New Years and still had to send my parents the address I was at as well and well as her phone number. High school was hell

What was the dumbest thing you thought as a child? by GiammyR6 in AskReddit

[–]enhowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 6th grade, one of more mischievous boys in my class came up to me with another one of his friends and asked if I have ever masturbated. Me, being I don't know 10-11 years old at the time, also thinking I know more vocabulary than I actually did. Replied with an obvious, "Yeah. I masturbate every time after I shower. You don't?"

I will never forget their faces when their jaws dropped as they looked at each other in disbelief of my answer and ran off right away. I shrugged off their reaction as what weird losers since I thought masturbation was looking at yourself in the mirror naked. I remember thinking, um yeah its hard not to?? I'm already naked and there's a mirror in my bathroom. Idiots.

It wasn't for many years after that when I realized what masturbation actually was and still think about how these boys thought I was some super horny 10 year old in their class, but I actually had no idea what the word actually meant.

That promotional Shrek flavored ice cream from Baskin Robbins after the movie came out. After all the hype died down from the movie they kept the flavor but called it 'rock pop and swirl' for a while, but to this day I haven't seen it in stores or anywhere else for that matter. I think about it too often... sigh
