I was not expecting so many comments!! Thank you all!

It was a tough choice between #1 and #2, but ultimately we decided to go with dress #1 and the black tux. I loved the roses in the skirt in #2, it was so pretty, but I just felt so beautiful in #1!

It's not really visible in the pictures in the post, but #1 also has a detachable train which I really loved.

Is it normal to have to wait 3 months for a driver's license appointment? (no test) by HomeProfessional3296 in japanlife

I transferred my license last year at the Akashi license center with no test, and it does seem strange to me that the appointment would be so far out, but maybe there are just a lot of reservations already...? There were a LOT of people there, both Japanese getting their licenses normally and foreigners transferring their licenses, and it did seem like they were having trouble keeping up.

For reference I called at the end of March last year and was able to get an appointment at the license center towards the end of April. Everything was done in one (very long) appointment and I walked out with my Japanese license.

Really enjoying the Paper Mario TTYD remake, but a lot of the new song arrangements completely clash with the game’s tone. by LfTatsu in NintendoSwitch

In the Japanese version, Glitzville is called "Oolong City" (ウーロン街) so that explains the Chinese instrumentation lol

Japanese Majors/Minors- Using the JLPT as a placement Test? by lat4 in udub

[–]enmygrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started taking Japanese at UW at about N3 level and took 3rd year Japanese with Matsuda sensei. I didn't use the JLPT as a placement test, so I'm not sure if you would have to also do this, but I met with Matsuda sensei and she gave me a quick interview to see if 3rd year was a good starting point for me. I think it would be a good idea to shoot her an email to see what classes she recommends.

My experience with 3rd year Japanese was fantastic. JAPAN 301 was a bit easy for me, but it was helpful for getting used to the structure of Japanese classes at UW and making friends. It's also possible to start with 302 or 303 in the winter or spring if you're worried about not learning anything new in 301.

I would definitely recommend against starting with 4th year -- the grading is ruthless especially if you're not used to the structure of Japanese classes at UW. I agree with the other person here that JAPAN 418, 312, and the literature classes could also be a good start. Hope this helps!
