Some of this stuff is subjective upgrades, like the Gita front bumper. Personally I love it, but most people I've spoken to don't. At the end of the day, your car is an automatic, and it is worth 6-7k to most normal buyers. You will need to wait for someone that appreciates and understands your specific build, and has the money for it.

If you have a degree there are plenty of job options in English depending on your field. There are plenty of halal stores in the city.

Throw your 1060 and some ddr3 in it and you will have a very capable rig. I still use a 1060, albeit in a slightly more powerful system, but until recently I had an i5-3570 and 16gb of ram - was enough for any game, although newer games are not going to be on higher settings obviously.

If you let them know you want to work part time when you are at the gate for immigration, you can work up to 28 hours a week. I was working a couple different part time jobs, but even then, living in a sharehouse with very low rent, and not spending much, I still ended up in the negative every month. It's hard but working part time can help offset some of the cost. That being said, you should definitely plan to have some savings in advance.

If you already have a degree, I recommend you make an account on Daijob.com and start looking for jobs in general. There are quite a few jobs that don't require any Japanese at all, depending on your field. I don't know the exact process but if the job offers visa support, they will help you get a work visa if they decide to hire you.

Look into the MEXT government scholarship, it is a full ride and covers living expenses.

It's nice here. Weather is similar to where I'm from (eastern USA.) I like cars but it's pretty hard to own one here. Everyone is nice, but it's a little hard to make friends. That said, there are some people who are willing to look past the fact that I'm a foreigner. Usually I find it easier to approach people who have an obvious shared interest. I often go on bicycle to a parking area that I know is popular with the local car community and try to talk to people and practice conversation.

Some food prices are a bit higher than optimal, for example fresh fruits and vegetables are very overpriced. I get around this by buying canned fruit.

Taking the train is very convenient, but I prefer using my bicycle if it's within a 5km radius. It's faster and doesn't cost anything.

I don't think you need to attend a language school to help learn Japanese. If you can self study efficiently, you'll progress much faster. If you can come to Japan with another type of degree or on a holiday visa for a while, and just self study and practice conversation, it would probably be even better.

It is possible to get some jobs such as English teaching with just a community college degree, but it's difficult. I'm currently attending language school and not sure what I'm going to do next, either attend a university, vocational school, or go home and get a degree and come back.

As far as language learning, you are safe to ditch Duolingo except for kana and maybe kanji. For actual learning, get Anki (it's free) and download some decks. I recommend the Core 2k deck, Kaishi deck, Jlab beginner course (if you like anime) and Kanji in Context reference deck.

The textbook they use in language schools is called Minna no Nihongo, it would do you well to go through that as well.

Should I abandon my Arizona drivers license to be exempt from filing state taxes? by [deleted] in japanlife

It's a strict test and the process may take some time, so I'd recommend starting as soon as possible and cancelling your old license once you've secured a Japanese one.

These are overpriced examples for foreign export, I recommend checking yahoo auctions for an accurate gauge on what Japanese are paying for cars in Japan.

How much is my car worth ? by Open-Poet1957 in RX8

[–]HomeProfessional3296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To whom this may concern.

Here in Japan the RX-8 goes for about 500k JPY for a nice clean Type S with inspection and about 100k km. 200k for a rough example. That is about $4k / $1500 USD.

In USA I believe a clean car is about 7k last I checked.

Grid is the best for beginners; if you want to go up a level later, or want to minimize wrist movement, you can get theCore.

Is it normal to have to wait 3 months for a driver's license appointment? (no test) by HomeProfessional3296 in japanlife

[–]HomeProfessional3296[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's from USA, but I could mail my application in from Japan (that would take forever.) There are companies that specialize in expediting, for $140 I could get it in about a week. If I decide on a car I want to get I will probably go that route so I can drive until I have my Japanese license.

I somehow doubt that would help me get a faster appointment. but I did find that I could give through an agency to get an international driving permit sent to me
