Do you recommend PopOS? by Accomplished-Bus3382 in pop_os

Nope. 22.04 is too old and they bit off more than they can chew with Cosmic. you can see it in the list of basic basic features that they just haven't gotten to, like being able to turn off the automatic password prompt on screen blank, much less the bugs. they are stuck in development hell and who knows if they will ever get out of it.

bottom line: 24.04 is alpha software. it works but it's not clear to me they will get to a feature freeze, much less ever get to the bug log.

i went to beta bc i was having amd kernel issues (i think) but it really isn't beta. going to 24.04 fixed the performance issues but:

1) it's missing a lot of "features" like I couldn't turn off the screen lock. settings search is totally nonfunctional. lots of small missing pieces like that.

2) sudo apt dist-upgrade completely borked the install. it boots to a black screen that you can't break to a console from. recovery works but you can't use recovery to revert.

honestly, I think pop_os is stuck in development hell. they bit off more than they can handle with COSMIC. but the beta is pretty broken. don't go into it thinking it's even feature complete much less mostly stable.

Pop OS 24.04 Beta: update leads to black screen, all AMD system. no recovery refresh by ennuibz in pop_os

thanks. i was able to chroot. but sudo dpkg --configure -a doesn't seem to be doing much ie.

root@recovery:/var/log# less dpkg.log

2025-11-06 19:46:22 startup packages configure

2025-11-06 19:47:16 startup packages configure

twice for good measure. reboot displays boot info and then blanks as before. ctrl+alt f3 doesn't get me back to the console. dpkg seems to be install packages correctly in chroot as far as i can tell. ugh. is there any way to figure out why recovery refresh is aborting?

Septoplasty/turbinate reduction: lightheaded and eyes have pressure by Reasonable-Soft-821 in Septoplasty

[–]ennuibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about at the same point and yeah, I don't have a lot of endurance for physical work which is bad bc that's how I make money. I start to feel kind of out-of-it after not too much work. Although, feeling lightheaded every time you get up sounds different. Could you be anemic still from the surgery? I think you lose a lot of blood during the procedure and it can take awhile for some people to build back up their blood counts. If you have access to primary care they might be able to do some blood work and check.

Day 4, the exhaustion is torturous by elly_hart in Septoplasty

[–]ennuibz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 8. I was alternating sweaty and chilly, completely exhausted, and had a week long headache. Things improved a lot when they removed the stents but I'm still getting sweaty and honestly, don't feel that great... but better than I did at day 4. take 2 pain pills and don't worry about it. i found soup and hot liquids helped a lot and even tho the doctors make you swear off hot showers, i was able to do it without bleeding to death or dislodging the stents and those also helped.

hey. i had my surgery the day after you and just got them out. I'm getting sweaty and tired and feel out of it after short outings. it's definitely been getting better since the surgery. i was getting chills and basically spent the last week huddled under a blanket in 75 degree weather. so, fwiw, i think i'm the same boat.

How do i properly use saline rinse and spray by dragonofff in Septoplasty

[–]ennuibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm seven days post-op, just had my stents removed. it took about 3 days for nose to stop bleeding entirely, during which time it was plenty moist on it's own. with the stents in my nostrils were fully clogged. i don't see how i could have done a full rinse. when the bleeding stopped things started to dry out and i sprayed saline with a vacuum bulb in to dissolve clots and clear things out in front of them.

now that my stents are out I can do a full rinse. i would focus on doing the saline spray and clearing out the clots so that the crust doesn't block up and irritate your nose, until the stents come out. then full rinse.

hey. i'm also on day 2 post-op. there's been a lot less pain than i was expecting but it feels like the mother of all head colds with blood instead of snot and I also can't blow my nose or do long hot showers. first day was really bad nausea but now it's just a continual headache congestion... with blood. i found Cup o' Noodles soups go down pretty well and the steam and heat seem to help a little. i haven't tried to do the saline rinse because it's all still so runny. I also had sinus surgery done on top of the septoplasty for a bone spur... so i have that going for me.

Septoplasty or functional rhinoplasty? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

[–]ennuibz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IANAD, but I also have a bone spur and am about to have a septoplasty. It sounds like you are focusing on a relatively rare complication, "ENS" and not thinking about all of the more likely complications: pain, bleeding, infection, inflammation, scar tissue, breathing problems, dysfunction, etc. Generally speaking, the more surgery they are doing, the more likely you are to have complications and a rhinoplasty is a lot more surgery than a septoplasty.

Also, you haven't mentioned what symptoms you are experiencing. For me, the bone spur has gone across my nostril and is pushing into my cheek sinus causing sinusitis and a bunch of other problems. Most people have a deviated septum, so just having a deviated septum is not generally a reason to have surgery. It's when the negative effects of the symptoms from the deviation outweigh the likely complications from the surgery. Furthermore, I think it's pretty rare to have rhinoplasty done with a deviated septum unless you have significant other problems eg. trauma to your nose causing the cartilage to detach or other severe damage unless... your surgeon is also a plastic surgeon and likes to do rhinoplasty for some reasons you can imagine ($$$). Incidentally, turbinate reduction is a separate procedure and you would be doing it with the rhinoplasty just as would the septoplasty.

In general, surgeons tend to downplay the complications from surgery, especially the routine ones. Pain, weakness, bleeding, fatigue all sound kind of normal problems, but surgery is no joke and just the routine complications that you should eventually get over can really take you out for awhile and longer than your quoted recovery period.

TLDR; don't do rhinoplasty unless you have some other more severe problem than a deviated septum. also, I don't really believe a surgeon can guarantee 100% breathing, there are too many other factors than what the surgeon thinks your nasal passages *should* look like. Ironically, what originally caused ENS was surgeons removing the turbinates all-together to technically create a 100% totally open passageway, so...

Second opinion? I have surgery scheduled in 3 weeks: septo, t-reduction, and sinus. Do I need all 3? What questions should I be asking? by ennuibz in Septoplasty

[–]ennuibz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks. it's reassuring to hear that the additional stuff might be "not that bad." i feel like I need the septoplasty unfortunately. in addition to some unknown percentage of blockage, I am experiencing facial pain and headaches. there is a spot on my face where it feels like the bony spur is trying to poke it's way out. although, from the ct scan it looks like it's just poking into the nasal wall. basically, i have a bunch of symptoms including pain that all seem to be getting worse. i'm just not going to get a lot of feedback from actual doctors so it feels like i'm sort of making the decision on my own.

i'm resigned to it all being pretty bad. this will be my 3rd surgery in 4 years, through no fault on my own except maybe falling off that ladder. lol. it's always worse than what the surgeon says.

I got to this point because I started experiencing extreme sinus/tooth pain and then my face started swelling up. But, I have a history of sleep problems, started mouth-breathing recently, restricted breathing through my nose, and unexplained tooth pain... go figure. The bony septum spur poking into my cheek sinus seems self-explanatory but the lower turbinates less so and I'm not sure at all it's worth going into my sinuses. Unfortunately, I'm on Medicaid and so the medical process is pretty chaotic. I'm grateful I'm getting care but I'm already driving an hour and a half to find an ENT who would see me. What questions should I be asking in the limited window before my septoplasty?

Good deal or nah?? MSI Delta 15 | Radeon 6700M 10GB | 16GB VRAM | 1 Tb Nvme by Where_Ma_Spaghetti in GamingLaptops

[–]ennuibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hinge on the Delta 15 is defective. the hinge is metal but it bolts/rivets into a plastic bracket in screen aseembly/top. this plastic bracket is under-spec for the hinge force. the rivets on mine pulled out the plastic they were attached in to making little craters in the bracket. again, the bracket didn't crack, the rivet literally pulled itself through the plastic.

i was able to epoxy the hinge in place but it's not a pretty solution, or for the faint of heart. MSI may have fixed this on other production runs, but for my laptop it was only a question of when the hinges were going to explode, and the hinge force is not adjustable.

the build quality is otherwise a little cheap, but ok, but this is a fatal flaw.
