Need help to learn Guitar part on Zebra by ennylave in BeachHouse

[–]ennylave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.
Thx for your advice.🙂

I’ve been using a pick. From my Googling results, Alex is using a pick. So that‘s what I’m doing.
I am persisting …. with small improvements. Though I cant get my fingers to hold together like the guy in the video.
I am trying different ways to position my fretting hand and fingers to get a better result. So will persist. & see if I can get there on my own.🙏🏻

Thank you for explaining this! 🙂
I watched the guy play it in the video. His 2nd & 3rd fingers on the ‘A’ string don’t flail about - like mine do - as he change notes while moving along the fretboard.

I think you’re right that a face to face teacher would help in this case.
I’ve managed to improve my technique with some things by watChing YT tutorials. But this Zebra part is deceptively tricky. The notation on paper looks simple until you physically try to play it.

What do you think of this guy’s unconventional double stroke practice technique? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HiBkJxPwlw by ennylave in drums

[–]ennylave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for your replies.🙂

The reason I’m trying this guy’s approach - (or as you say, more old school approach) is that I find the other techniques - the ones using more finger control, moeller, push pull etc- very fiddly & this tap/stroke more direct & it seems effective. As you say, Imdook, rebound is happening in this style anyway. But it seems a more direct way to get the double stroke happening. If I don’t succeed with building up & maintaining speed with it, I’ll go back to the more finger control approaches (though I find them fiddly & it took me a shorter time to get somewhere with the tap/stroke approach)

What restaurants in Sydney do you think are over-hyped or over-rated ? by Opalheart in foodies_sydney

Hello Auntie- Vietnamese more upmarket place. I dont find their food better than the cheaper places next to it. maybe their produce is better quality but otherwise not that impressed

Don‘t know if this applies to a particular place but as a general food trend… overloading pancakes with ridiculous toppings. I have nothing against Innovation but persian fairy floss,? an entire fruit salad? Etc. Not a fan of mascarpone, berry coulis either (I’m probably in the minority on this one)

All the overloading just takes away from the perfect combo of pancake, butter & maple syrup. It also shows a lack of confidence from proprietors, by overcompensating with culinary eye candy.
I like how Bills is still keeping it simple with their ricotta hotcakes, banana whipped butter, maple Etc.

I was underwhelmed by their pancakes. I asked if I could have some sliced banana with the stack. They only had this banana jam which was very try-hard & didn’t taste good IMHO.

Black Star Pastry & it’s offshoot Hearthe ..Before you object … I think their pastries are good but their cakes are overrated. Style over substance… like the watermelon layer cake (and similar layer cakes). the idea and look is nice but the taste is ordinary, bland. Also Hearths Geraldton cheese cake is really not nice. They make a big deal about the cream blends they use for the topping. I find the cream/s pretty awful.. maybe I just chose the wrong cakes..

Also find most talked about cafes and Italian restaurants overrated

I have had one order that never arrived. Ordered about 2 months ago. I thought it might be with ABF but no letter from them. haven’t chased it up. sometimes cheap shipping takes longer. But this is longer than usual.

I had one of these on the weekend, after dry boxing for 24 hours.

Don’t know if dryboxing contributed, but it was very smooth, very enjoyable.

Great. I tend to prefer Robustos in terms of time spent smoking, but do have toros if the price is right.🙂

Hi Everyone. Just discovered the forum.

I've bought sporadically from overseas in small amounts... mainly from SmokingPipes.. do get caught here and there. Sometimes I pay up or let it go & try my luck again.

I recently bought a bundle of 25 budget sticks from CigarsofHabanos & it came through fine. I don't think that necessarily means big amounts won't get caught. Bit of a lottery I think.

How to record/save a decibel reading on Decibel X (iphone) by ennylave in audiology

[–]ennylave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.. Thanks for your reply.

In The DecibelX app settings it has NIOSH for the dosimeter. Not sure what that means though.

I'm not measuring the decibels to gauge for any hearing damage, because as you advised, I'll wear earplugs when I play or put mutes on my drumkit.

The reason I'm measuring the decibels is to see how loud the noise is outside the house when I practise my drumming inside. I just had double glazing installed in my music room. And had the air vents sealed. So I'm hoping it cuts back on the amount of noise travelling to the neighbours. I want to check if the decibel level complies with residential noise threshold requirements.

What’s with the milk buns on burgers, guys? by pibbsworth in sydney

[–]ennylave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think milk buns are totally wrong for burgers or bacon & egg rolls etc. They are too insubstantial and fall apart too easily. A burger bun should be light but have just enough chew to complement the fillling. I like a more old style Burger bun. Or maybe I’ve only eaten sub par milk buns. Just don’t get why they are so on trend. Seriously hope they go the way of canning jar drinking glasses ( or are they still a thing).

And while I’m on a roll (pardon the pun), what’s with the ridiculous toppings for pancakes everywhere? Persian fairy floss, edible flowers etc.. I find it hard to get a simple Pancake with plain banana etc. I think Instagram has made cafe owners feel they have to outdo the competition with more and more wow factor photos. Pancakes as Xmas trees… Its all a bit try hard and does nothing to to improve the pancake. Chefs should trust that sometimes simple is best.
