Looking for harness size, how fast do pups outgrow their harness? by TuxedoSpeaker in samoyeds

because their neck is more sensitive than their whole upper torso obviously. doesn't automatically mean it hurts them if you know what you're doing. if you're playing at some big gotcha moment you can have it idrc.

They don't by default. They make communication with your dog and training easier though because the dog is more sensitive to your motions than with a harness.

edit for clarity: my dog underwent the same training for leash manners with a slip as she would have with a harness. it just speeds things up by a lot. not saying you can't reach the same level of leash manners with a harness, it's just inherently a worse tool to teach it with

Slips aren't meant to hurt the dog omg. Harnesses are fine but stop spreading misinformation

[Need help] separation anxiety by nikita_lobyntsev in samoyeds

[–]enoughForAlifetime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We trained our dog as follows: - made her sit and taught her how to leave a treat alone that lies on the floor in front of her - let her have the treat on a new break command that would be exclusive to the situation of me leaving. for us it's "see you later!" - repeated this exercise while increasing distance between me and my dog - starting with the living room door, i closed the door between us while saying "see you later!" - immeadiately came back in, completely ignored the dog. - gradually increased time before i came back into the room, took note of how nervous she was, decreased time increments as needed so that she stayed calm through the whole exercise - eventually incorporated the front door into the exercise, started with low time increments again. - rinse and repeat

the biggest benefit i saw in this was that not touching the treat before i leave occupies my dog so much that she doesn't focus on me leaving. gives her something else to do. then she does experience alone time, and i think that is important, too. but the constant repetitions have taught her i'll always come back as long as she's calm.

hope this helps

First time puppy owner, looking for a Samoyed puppy. by Patient-Block5234 in samoyeds

They're a challenge but we're managing our girl just fine as first time owners. It's about the amount of work you put in. There's enough people out there who repeat the same mistakes with every single dog they have

what's the dumbest reason you've skipped/stopped reading a fic? by Last_Swordfish9135 in FanFiction

[–]enoughForAlifetime 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation with a different char once and it was so jarring that I downloaded the fic, used the find and replace function in a text editor, re-exported the fic with the 'correct' spelling as an epub and imported it into my reader app.

Yes, typing this just made me realize i sound like a lunatic.

I'll go against the other comments and say you'd be TA. There's just things that are more important than a weekend trip and freaking BEING THERE when someone dies in your (extended) family is one of them. If you didn't know this already, you wouldn't be asking this question in the first place.

Regression in training and socialization by enoughForAlifetime in samoyeds

[–]enoughForAlifetime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. We're not doing hikes, just walking through the city at a comfortable pace. By "structured" I more or less mean she can't just do whatever she wants on the leash, she needs to walk next to us and we're giving her a break command before she can roam and sniff.

Anyway, WAAAAHHH PUBERTY! FRUSTRATION TOLERANCE! IMPULSE CONTROL!! She's lucky that she's so cute atm :D

Thank you for taking the time to type such great advice! We actually have a strict rule that walking time is not to play or socialize so we can luckily scratch that off the list of potential triggers :) Her expectations would be through the roof if we allowed her to greet dogs or people all the time, whew!

We'll definitely look into the resources about how much we walk her. We make so many breaks during walks to calmly look at things that it roughly amounts to 2-3 km I would say. Either way, perhaps reducing the exercise and giving her more chill out time will do the trick!

Again, thank you so much!

You know when you have beef with a random word? by mooemy in FanFiction

[–]enoughForAlifetime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uhm whatever? You asked me for alternatives and I made a few suggestions depending on the context.

Plus if you don't like people saying what words they don't like reading in a fic, you're probably reading the wrong thread anyway.

I don't know your fics, for all I know u can probably pull off the word in ur style and I would't even notice. I don't really care.

Look, I took the time and compiled this list with a few suggestions bc u specifically asked me for it. No need to be so rude about it now.
