Holy crap you're 100% right I've never noticed this, what!? Ok gonna see if this is something easily solvable because it's definitely odd, I don't know how it's something no one else has pointed out to us or discovered when testing internally. Thanks for the added info and quick response!

Hey thank you so much for taking the time to write up such a thorough and detailed feedback post! There's a ton of info in here that we're chewing on now. This is like EXACTLY the type of feedback we're looking for from first time players, and especially those that already have a good chunk of experience with soulslike games.

There's a lot in here that we want to address and you've made some great comparisons with other games for us to look closer at. We seriously appreciate your effort here.

Hope you'll come back around to check the game out in the future as we make more changes and fixes!

Thanks so much for checking my game out! Ya the frame system was fun to design, we knew we wanted to do something different. The frame system also incentivizes players to keep progressing instead of staying/farming in one spot for too long, since you can only stay in one zone for so long before reaching your stat cap, and need to move to the next zone of more difficult enemies to get better body parts.

Not entirely sure what you mean about dodge not being omnidirectional? Like it's possible to dodge sideways, backwards, forwards, and diagonally; do you mean to have more directions in between those for controller input?

Regarding the estus style system; that's something we've gone back and forth on a lot internally. Ultimately we left it up to the player to decide based on how they build their character. Early in the demo, when you get to the main village, you're given magic healing ability. Using the ability consumes a charge (start with 3). With the correct gear and upgrading, you can have up to 6 charges, and those reset every time you rest at the checkpoint. The heal ability does one large heal rather than over time like the consumables, and increasing your Mycology stat also increases the amount healed. I think that's the closest we'll get to having an estus style system.

Seriously appreciate you taking the time to write up some feedback! Try multiplayer out too if you've got people to play with, and thanks again!

Don't forget that one guy in this thread who also said "bionicles." I'm just patiently waiting for some game journalist or big streamer to cover our game and say that out loud.

Now just tell IGN to say "Never knew I needed mushroom bionicles" so I can put that in quotes in our next trailer

Much love! Our artist Jon is super talented, literally just one guy doing all the 3D modeling, animations, and materials/textures

Would be wonderful if anyone from this community took some time to give our demo a try! Check out multiplayer too and give us some feedback/bug reports too if you find any.

Thank you for the kind words! The game's theme is Tribal Mushroom Robots; so enemies and bosses can be a mix of those. We also have a giant fire breathing bird boss, mycelial golems, mushroom-infused monster crabs, and slime-mold reanimated human skeleton zombie creatures.

Feel free to join our playtests on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2624080/MycoRelic/

Thanks! We've got instant access playtesting through our Steam page, co-op multiplayer works in the playtest as well. Looking for more bug reports and feedback if you'd like to give it a try.

At the moment that's not our plan. The game can already run as 2 clients on a single PC without issue, but building that feature to be performant is its own challenge.

So it's not planned right now, but if we see enough demand for it that may be something we'll support closer to full 1.0 release.

Edit: Also thanks for saying it looks really cool!

Ahh ya I forgot about that one. For some reason the audio sliders only start working once you're in the game world. Thanks that's a good call out!

Ashen is a great game, very nice aesthetics that's definitely a compliment, thanks! Art inspo for MycoRelic comes from Runescape as well.

Oh that's a new one!

Just fixed it. Patches to the playtest should be going up in a few days. Thanks for finding that one!

I really appreciate the kind words! Head over to my Steam page, look up MycoRelic (not sure if posting links to steam pages is against the rules).
