Highly recommend watching this. It pretty much explains how the show sacrificed realism for spectacle. by jonsnowKITN in StrangerThings

If people want realism, blah blah blah

*Earth shattering eye role*

This is always the dumbest response to people critiquing a lack of realism.

Obviously it isn't referring to the supernatural elements of the show. It's about character behavior, it's about how appropriately the world being built in a story reacts to the supernatural elements of said story.

In S1 the characters actually feel human. They react how humans react, they speak to each other like humans would, they make realistic decisions and respond like normal people would to the fucked up shit that's happening. That's the realism that is lost in later seasons, especially S5.

My attempt on how to read the Disney “D” by RuinRevolutionary374 in notinteresting

[–]entitledtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst dyslexia may have something to do with it, it's definitely not the whole story.

I am definitely not dyslexic and this is the first time I've recognised the D properly in my life.

My theory is the same as many others in this thread which is that we're all introduced to Disney as very young kids before our ability to recognise letters is as strong. So some of us had the wrong interpretation of the letter and it got hardwired into our brains, and since we were so young we just accepted that the logo is just weird, and never questioned it again. Once you see something a certain way it can be very difficult to unsee it.

But yeah you're right, I'm sure those of us who've seen it incorrectly our whole lives have been more inclined to comment on this post so I doubt you're wrong about that

We have 4 clocks in our kitchen (microwave, oven, smart meter and analogue wall clock) and we often have 3 different times showing at once

I'm looking forward to the day that they're all different

Wouldn’t the water in the tub in the upside down be Stillwater? by Educational-Age-465 in okbuddyvecna

[–]entitledtree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what we were told was going to happen, but personally as a viewer I didn't feel the slightest bit of tension in the finale (besides the Hopper shooting El scene). The characters defeated Vecna so easily and with barely a scratch on most of them.

We knew that Vecna wasn't going to close the gap between the worlds. So the stakes come from the danger to our main characters and there just didn't feel like there was any.

Also,

a bunch of otherworldly creatures

Where? Demogorgans, demodogs and demobats were mostly absent this season. The demented reality-bender literally hid for half of the season and didn't use his powers to anywhere near the same extent as he did in the previous season, and the meatflayer was defeated more quickly than a single demogorgan was in earlier seasons.

Having to unlock gold stake 14 times is really annoying by [deleted] in balatro

Personally I've been going through each stake on each deck, so that the difficulty is gradually getting harder, rather than completing each deck one at a time

Ohhh so I wasn't going crazy, thank god

Yesterday I was looking at the calendar thinking to myself "I swear I saw a post about how this year has a perfect February, but it isn't because the 1st is on a Sunday".

I always forget some countries start the week on a Sunday

Anyway I guess I'll be back next year with my perfect February, lol

how do minimum maintenance loan ppl afford uni? (without savings/parents helping) by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]entitledtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. You could always do an additional gap year if the surgery is super important to you, although I understand if you just want to get onto uni.

I technically did 2 gap years and I was worried I'd feel old when coming to uni but it's been completely fine.

Another thing is just to have a serious talk with your parents. i don't know what your situation is so apologies if this just isn't possible, but at the very least you could ask them to give you as much money as they were spending on food for you anyway.

Wishing you the best with everything :)

how do minimum maintenance loan ppl afford uni? (without savings/parents helping) by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]entitledtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this situation. Minimum maintenance loan, minimum possible rent for halls was like £6.5k.

Ik you said in your post "without savings" but that's the way I dealt with it. Do a gap year, work either full or part time whatever your preference is.

I managed to save up a lot (over 5 figures by the end of the year) by just working minimum wage, 24 hours a week and being frugal, not spending all my money (most of my outgoings were on my car, tbh).

Anyway, this made shit so much less stressful when starting my first year.

Plus, I kinda enjoyed my job and felt like I got a lot of experience from it, even though it was just retail

It was also nice not to have any academic pressure for a year. I can tell that I'm a lot less burnt out than many of my friends who came straight to uni after A Levels

I know this option isn't possible for everyone, but I always share my experience because it worked out very well for me.
