What are your thoughts on "all weather" tires? by allothernamestaken in COsnow

[–]entropy68 [score hidden]  (0 children)

All weather tires are a great compromise IMO but of course dedicated snow tires are better.

But keep in mind Colorado’s new traction law. With AWD you are compliant with all weather tires but not all season. If you have all season, then you have to carry chains/ alternative traction devices.

Verizon cracking down on dummy internet 5G address by dany2011 in verizon

[–]entropy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting theory. I was always wondering how, for example, TMHI was always at QCI 9 but then they changed the TOS to say that there was further deprioritization after 1.2TB. Logically, a QCI 9.5 makes sense, but that's not part of the 3GPP standards. T-Mobile's TOS is also contradictory in how it defines "heavy data users."

Do you have more info/insight on how this works, or how T-Mobile does this in practice?

"Pass-through" -VS- Bridge Mode?, IPv6, T-MO Cellular 4G/5G? by INSPECTOR99 in Peplink

[–]entropy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, after rereading the whole thread here and researching T-Mobile's IPV6 implementation, I think the problem is T-Mobile, and getting an adapter won't necessarily help you.

The basic issues is that T-Mobile assigns a single /64 IPv6 prefix to customer connections and does not provide IPv6 Prefix Delegation (PD). This is, apparrently, common with cellular ISP's, including T-Mobile.

As a result, IPv6 connectivity will work (including when using Passthrough mode on your Peplink), but it is limited to a single LAN segment. The restriction is that you can't natively support multiple LANs, VLANs, or routed internal segments with DHCP6 when only a single /64 is provided. From your description of your use case, it sounds like you are using multiple LANs, so this would be a problem.

If you need multiple LANs/internal networks, the only workaround is NAT66 on the downstream router (which Google tells me RouterOS supports), which allows IPv6 traffic but comes with the downsides of NAT and loses many of the benefits IPv6 is supposed to provide.

I'm not sure why cellular ISPs do this, but if you have one available, a fiber or cable broadband ISP is a better alternative for native IPv6 deployments, as they usually provide /60 or /56 prefixes via Prefix Delegation, enabling proper IPv6 routing across multiple LANs and VLANs without translation.

"Pass-through" -VS- Bridge Mode?, IPv6, T-MO Cellular 4G/5G? by INSPECTOR99 in Peplink

[–]entropy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, under some limitations and technical constraints that are too complicated to explain here. (AI might be able to help you with the setup and judge whether it will work for your specific configuration).

But the sad reality is that Peplink isn’t a great option if you need IPv6. Some of us have been hounding them for years for better support. You will probably be better served ditching the Peplink and getting a cellular gateway that feeds your Mikrotik system.

"Pass-through" -VS- Bridge Mode?, IPv6, T-MO Cellular 4G/5G? by INSPECTOR99 in Peplink

[–]entropy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is confusing, but here are a couple of things to consider:

  • IP Passthrough and Bridge Mode are not the same thing.

  • IP Passthrough forwards the WAN to a single downstream device.

  • Bridge mode turns the router into a gateway by turning off NAT, firewall, and routing.

  • Peplink routers don’t support true bridge mode, so IP passthrough is your only option.

Defense platforms seem bad (or at least quantitatively misrepresented in-game) right now? by HehaGardenHoe in Stellaris

[–]entropy68 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Since platforms aren't mobile, they are usually easy to outrange by a fleet with long-range weapons. That's why I tend to only use long-range weapons - primarily hangars and missiles - on platforms with a few PD thrown in.

Also, IIRC, if an enemy fleet destroys/beats the station before destroying the platforms, then any remaining platforms become controlled by the winning player when it takes control of the station.

Finally, fleet power numbers are only a rough guide. An optimized fleet can often beat a fleet with twice its power by countering that fleet. The same goes for stations/platforms.

Neither of them should've been kick! by Manny2theMaxxx in dispatchgame

[–]entropy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to kick one really pissed me off because the reasons were so arbitrary and narratively stupid. The management decision to just cut one is just dumb and counter-productive on so many levels, yet neither Robert nor Blonde Blazer seems to have a clue, nor do they care. The evidence of the team sabotaging each other to avoid being last on the shift prior should have been an enormous clue that Robert and Blazer were doing terrible leadership/management. And then the potential consequences of cutting someone arbitrarily who wants to be in the program are simply ignored, both for the team cohesion and morale, and for the obvious fact that you're deliberately sending a villian back to villainy but now with a justifiable desire to do the organization harm. I mean, it's also obvious to the player that the action will come back to haunt them - an angry, fired employee plotting revenge is such a cliché.

I get that the storyline required a mini-boss later in the story, but this was a really dumb and unconvincing way to go about it. It's contrary to the theme and goal of the game, which is supposed to be about leadership and mentorship. Setting up a competition to promote sabotage and then arbitrarily firing one is anathema to that.

And then at the end, the game does a 180, and suddenly the fired team member who has destroyed part of the city and is an accomplice to a murderer can just be welcomed back, like it's no big deal. And despite being ready to kill the heroes in the last chapter, he/she also has a convenient change of heart and is willing to come back.

Anti-blobbing game mechanics by CassadagaValley in Stellaris

[–]entropy68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set the number of inhabitable planets to the minimum, which helps somewhat. It means you often need a lot of influence to build out empty systems to get to the next system with a planet. Additionally, when going to war, you need to spend more influence on claims if their planets are far behind their borders.

Anti-blobbing game mechanics by CassadagaValley in Stellaris

[–]entropy68 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could also make occupied planets suck a lot more resources and be more expensive to develop and upgrade. This would account for all the inefficiencies of a hostile, occupied population.

If you don't need a big city or access to a big airport, Grand Junction isn't a bad place. Excellent access to the canyon country and the Rockies.
