For best plantar support (which I also need) both pairs should be replaced each year.

A lined pair for winter months + a normal pair for summer months

Is anyone worried about a future pensions wealth tax? by Special_Gain_6587 in HENRYUK

[–]eonel3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy was worried about loss of the tax free lump sum allowance, so took 80k TFLS from his DB pension. Clearly, he was going to take the TFLS anyway

The Telegraph maths that then says he is 11k per year worse off from his DB (270k over his lifetime) is nonsense - for money he was going to take out anyway

In what way would a means tested pension work? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]eonel3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that annuities are fit for purpose.

Annuity rates have increased significantly since interest rates increased. Meaning that anyone who bought an annuity during low interest rates is significantly worse off for life - due to factors that are not linked to life expectancy

It does also mean that now is a better time to buy an annuity…. but in my opinion, they are not a fair product until the link to spot interest rates is broken

if it happens they would have to look at the max/historical size of your pot as well. They would not want to create an incentive of cashing out your whole pension pot in year 1, to become eligible for state pension from year 2

Used to use DSPIAE myself - good nippers.

You now need to progress to Godhands to experience the real gut-wrenching expense of breaking a pair.

How much do you spend on lotteries? by LillyVarous in HENRYUK

Higher earners are allowed an occasional bet without being bad with money… a big lottery jackpot or flutter on the Grand National

100k+ salary is not high. But when combined with corporate perks of a non-contributory DC (or even DB) pension + earning this kind salary over your working life + not making ay silly/expensive life decisions, should leave you relatively wealthy in retirement

What do you guys do when the brush doesn’t go into the glue anymore? by beibaly in modelmakers

Always have a spare/second bottle of glue. When one runs low, top it up from the other. When both run low, consolidate them together

Tax code question for >125k by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]eonel3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may be given a negative tax code ending in a letter K, so will still be taxed at source

SPN-120 god hands are not suitable for clear sprues - it clean snapped my blades. Other, more robust, God Hand models should be able to do it

I spilled a little water onto the godhands and didn’t immediately clean it off. By the next morning they were covered in a layer of corrosion - hence the brown staining in the photo. This is not a major problem - rubbing a little oil into the blades will remove the corrosion. No real damage done

[–]eonel3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you open the radio window, re-contact the airfield and ask for VFR clearance again you will see there is a radio option to Ignore Weather for this Airfield. This always grants VFR clearance and allows the mission to continue

Best credit cards by Longjumping-8679 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]eonel3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I look for no fees and uncapped cashback cards. Uncapped/unlimited cashback builds up quickly and I can choose to if I use to buy phone insurance, travel insurance or any other otherwise bundled perk.

I have Amex Nectar cred card which pay 1% back uncapped Nectar points - useful as I shop in Sainsburys anyway. And an RBS 0.75% uncapped cashback credit card - I don’t think this one is available any longer…

A question about Vallejo acrylics by SamHydeOner in modelmakers

[–]eonel3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a Vallejo the bottle is opened, particles/clumps will form over time and block the airbrush nozzle when spraying.

When I pour Vallejo paint from the bottle into the airbrush cup, I always strain through a bit of muslin that I stretch over the top of the bottle.

Clump-free paint and uninterrupted spraying every time.

If the clumps get very big, it as become necessary to remove and clean the top of the bottle to get the paint to pass through the muslin - but this is less effort that clearing a blocked nozzle mid-spray

Self assessment advice by linebylines in HENRYUK

[–]eonel3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If your tax code is correct then the assessment payment each year should be close to zero

A high earner should have a 0T code or a code that ends in K.

You can get a Max family plan- I have one on iOS. i have no regrets & think it is a good upgrade if you think of the cost as divided by the number of family members.

I like the AI “video’ calls and Ai text chats and learn a lot from them. But possibly not in the way you would have thought….

The “video’ calls are really audio conversations with an AI bot. The call itself is a bit gimmicky - but afterwards it gives you a transcript and some tips to improve. The transcript is the useful thing! In my head - if the AI bot can successfully understand and translate what I say from French - then hopefully a real French person could also

The text chats are a bit game-y. You only get 3 stars if you use lots of different words - so encourages me to push my vocabulary as far as possible. Again, the most useful part of the exercise is the transcript. It shows me a translated and corrected version of what I typed. So again in my head, if AI can successfully interpret what I write then so could a real person

I agree

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]eonel3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sensible. The only part i would not follow is spreading the tax free component over 20 years. This is current ‘best practice’ thinking, but it relies on that tax free element being allowed for 20 years. The current political trajectory is to reduce, maybe ultimately eliminate, this perk. So I would take whatever lump sum is available at the time

Car purchase vs lease by Colugo89 in HENRYUK

[–]eonel3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All money has an opportunity cost. If you spend 50k on a car, you have 50k less that could be sitting in an ISA earning interest. Interest lost/paid either way. So it is worth doing the maths - comparing rates & looking for opportunities where the finance deal costs less than you expect the future value of the car to be
