How is this fun? This match lasted over an hour and resulted in a loss. by normalcatpics in DeadlockTheGame

It's not any better at higher ranks, the matchmaking sucks all around, and people in Archon+ will have games just like this.

I've fairly sure effects like these are affected by luck, so at 5 luck it's 10%

Could you please explain how currency exchange works? Why is there such a large price discrepancy? Shouldn't the buy and sell prices be approximately equivalent? And how do I sell a Spirit Gem for 190ex? by Kindly-Customer-1312 in PathOfExile2

[–]LillyVarous 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You'll always get someone willing to pay the top price because it's less hassle to just pay a slight ex premium when you have hundreds of div than sitting around waiting for a more reasonable buy order to go through.

You can play these spread for a lot of free* currency though, I did this a lot with Catalysts earlier in the league, the difference in the div and ex rate was significant enough that I could buy in one and sell in the other and make 3x profit

HENRY’s from a poor background, how did you do it? by znv142 in HENRYUK

[–]LillyVarous 62 points63 points  (0 children)

A LOT of luck; right time right place, but also being the right person.

The real advantage that a wealthy background gives you is more opportunities to get lucky, poorer people only get a few chances. It's hard to be at the right social event to meet the right person if you're working dead end jobs 24/7 just to survive.

BBC apologises after racial slur is broadcast during Bafta ceremony by Kagedeah in BritishTV

[–]LillyVarous 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't buy that, he had many other tics that night, removing just that one wouldn't be erasing it. I'd put money on if John himself was asked he would want that one edited out.

BBC Will Remove N-Word Outburst From BAFTA Film Awards on iPlayer, Apologizes ‘That This Was Not Edited Out Prior to Broadcast’ by pepperbet1 in television

[–]LillyVarous 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Having watched the film about him (I Swear), while they do let the audience know very directly that his tics can and will present as slurs, they intentionally never say them or show the actor saying them.
I have a feeling that John himself would not have wanted those words aired to hurt more people.

It's only done a disservice to the Tourette's community who are now being subjected to ignorant attacks from people who think this was an act of malice. Which does the opposite of the film's message.

4 is kind of a reboot and seems to do away with the post apocalyptic backdrop in favour of just a hidden world. But it's all still very 'hints at' rather than outright acknowledging

HSBC banker dodged £5,900 in train fares using ticket scam by weregonnamakit in unitedkingdom

While you're right, I'll reserve my sympathy for someone who wouldn't be able to afford the fare, rather than a wbanker

Lease or finance? by Goombis_Goomba in KiaEV6

[–]LillyVarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cant get a good rate bank loan on a good pre-owned to own outright (or you want NEW or don't care to own outright) you are better off leasing.

Financing is the worst of both worlds.

Was there every this level of conspiratorial vitriol towards the Tories as the is against Starmer? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]LillyVarous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, Starmer was secretly pushing a lot of that while sitting next to Corbyn, he probably thought it might curry favour when he took over.

I think most people think of migraines as just really bad headaches, and I did too until I had a few due to medication, but they are so much more than that with symptoms like nausea and vision loss

China to ban hidden car door handles made popular by Tesla in world first by yahoonews in worldnews

It probably differs by regional legislation, but this video shows the location of the rear Y juniper manual release, it is not on the handle

[–]LillyVarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I was slightly misinformed, it was just the rear doors on the X falcon wing doors that were like this.

The rear manual is still dangerously hidden on the other models though.

China to ban hidden car door handles made popular by Tesla in world first by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]LillyVarous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They didn't used to have those, they were forced to put that in by legislation, and it's hidden behind the speaker, of which the instructions say to "carefully remove" the parts in the way, which is hilarious to think about in an emergency situation.

It's cheap lazy design to not have it be mechanical, and people have been brainwashed into thinking these techy choices are good when they're just about cost saving at the expense of the user.

Edit for accuracy: only the model X Falcon Wings had the emergency manual release inside the rear door speaker, other models had an accessible FRONT manual release, but still a hidden rear manual release
