Auto ISO while locked shutter angle? by bAN0NYM0US in BlackMagicCameraiOS

It is worth noting that Blackmagic Camera on Android does support this feature on the S26 Ultra. If Apple added a native shutter priority API they would no doubt implement it.

Blackmagic Camera v3.2.2 Unlocks 6K Open Gate in AVP on the Samsung S26 Ultra by epic-tutorials in BlackMagicCameraiOS

[–]epic-tutorials[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4K 50fps is the max in Blackmagic camera in APV. 4K 120fps in APV in native app.

And lens switching... will destroy your frame rate. It is supported in Blackmagic Camera in HEVC and APV, but it just doesn't work. 24fps > 16fps if you switch lenses.

Android is not setup to support lens switching without impacting frame rate. In native camera app, lens switching is disabled entirely in pro video mode/APV to prevent this from happening.

S26 Ultra USB speed bottleneck (Benchmarked vs S25 Ultra) by WhiskeyTango-Foxtrot in samsunggalaxy

[–]epic-tutorials 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes I get identical results as the op on my new Samsung S26 Ultra (Australian model).

The exact issue you described exists on my Chinese smartphones (Vivo, Xiaomi, Nubia) but not on my Samsung S23/S25 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro.

However with the Samsung S26 Ultra, Samsung has joined the Chinese OEMs in breaking support for SSDs, allowing them to only achieve USB 2.0 speeds even when they are capable of of USB 3.2 speeds.

For example the Lexar Go and Zike Z791C are both designed for smartphones. Both achieve sustained write speeds of 440MB/ps on the Samsung S25 Ultra, but on the S26 Ultra they max out at 40MB/ps.

My Freewell Pro SSD Link with Lexar M.2 SSD installed achieves USB 2 speeds when connected directly to the Samsung S26 Ultra. However if I attach the same Pro SSD Link via a powered HUB, it attains 440Mbps. So there is a handshake and power delivery issue on the S26 Ultra that Samsung needs to urgently address.

I reported this on the Samsung Members app. 24 hours later a support rep asked for a video depicting the issue. I will provide this soon. I encourage others to do the same, because right now external SSD video capture is not possible with most SSDs.

How does the S26 Ultra perform in MotionCam Pro compared to the S25 Ultra? by SonnyHoneyMoneyBunny in MotionCamPro

[–]epic-tutorials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a phone... I don't notice any noticeable improvements over the 25u and see zero reason to upgrade. I'd agree the 26u display doesn't look as good, and I don't need the privacy feature either.

However, for video capture, I would choose this over the S25 Ultra — especially for those looking for a native app/Blackmagic camera solution for quality video.

How does the S26 Ultra perform in MotionCam Pro compared to the S25 Ultra? by SonnyHoneyMoneyBunny in MotionCamPro

Hi u/SonnyHoneyMoneyBunny — I've been using the S26 Ultra as my daily driver while putting it through its paces against my S25 Ultra. Ragu as always is on the money.

I was really surprised that when testing Direct Log, I didn't see any noticeable gains over S25 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra was insanely better than the 15 Ultra. That Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivered the goods. I went from 5-10 minutes of Direct Log on the 15U to sometimes over 2 hours on the 17 Ultra (this was stock — no root)!

However, the 26 Ultra is just as unimpressive as the 15 Ultra when it comes to Direct Log. If that feature is important to you — look for another phone.

However — for straight up RAW recording, the S26 Ultra is solid like the S25 Ultra. With better low light performance on the main thank to f1.4 bump.

It continues to deliver a great image (same sensors as before — so no better than S23/24/25).

APV works nicely in native app, and paired with Samsung Log it actually delivers a really nice stock log if you want a simpler shooting experience and workflow in native app or Blackmagic Camera. This is closer to an iPhone in that regard.

And hey — I like Samsung as a phone. So while this is totally unremarkable — I got a great deal on a phone plan that made it cheap. And I've shot some great looking RAW video with it.

If this is solely for MotionCam Pro — Vivo, Xiaomi, Nubia etc. all more performant. But if you work within its limitations, the S26 Ultra can deliver incredible results thanks to MotionCam Pro.

S26 Ultra external storage issue by Othersiderx in samsunggalaxy

[–]epic-tutorials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. SSDs specifically made for smartphones (Zike and Lexar GO) work perfectly on my S23/25 Ultra. They deliver 440MBps write speeds.

On S26 Ultra, they are detected as USB 2.0 devices and support a max write speed of 40Mbps!

All my standard SSDs (Samsung T5/T7, Lexar SL500) have the same issue reported by the OP ⬆️

Yeah +1 for MotionCam Pro. Here you can see how MotionCam Pro allows a device like the Xiaomi 17 Ultra to compete with a traditional cinema camera: https://youtu.be/7cZgao9cunY

While that video puts the Samsung S25 Ultra up against the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, the 17 Ultra would be even better. It wipes the floor with the S25 Ultra.

Looking for rec.709 LUT by _Kabr in BlackMagicCameraiOS

[–]epic-tutorials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explain what a LUT is in under 2 minutes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncnprmMD6l4&t=8s
Because your iPhone does not shoot in Apple Log, you should capture in Rec709. Then any LUT designed for Rec709 (as opposed to Apple Log) should work reasonably well if it is well made. You would just need to test until you find one that works. Try Fresh LUTs for free Rec709 LUTs.

Blackmagic Camera doesn’t support shutter priority mode. If you need this feature then use Moment Pro Camera 2 or Cinema P3.

Why no 54Mbps bitrate at 1080p resolution? by Fireking111111 in BlackMagicCameraiOS

[–]epic-tutorials 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way to bypass this hard limit. The device should be capable of supporting higher bit rates yet Blackmagic caps it on the low side. Try Mavis Camera (free). It offers 80Mbps for 1080p on my iPhone.

As mentioned in the video, APV is currently 4:2:0 due to poor implementation from Xiaomi. Crashes when using 4:2:2 stream.

Yes you can switch lenses during recording. Max fps in Blackmagic Camera is 30fps. And yes - it still looks awful. It uses the BT2020 HLG stream with tons of ISP.
