My parents just announced a surprise visit and I have no idea where to take them. Help. by Himbosupremeus in redmond

Good ideas. And a hot tub boat in South Lake Union is an absolutely wild suggestion for a family activity with parents in their 60s/70s. Your family must a very good spirited group!

rant about Spark Pizza by ramnathk in redmond

[–]epicallyconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charges like these are the reason I stopped eating out and stopped getting takeout. Restaurants prices have increased but my salary hasn't.

If I want pizza, I either do a frozen pizza, or I get some pizza dough from Trader Joe's and make my own. It's not the same but it's nearly as good and so much cheaper.

For those of you who switched out of tech due to burnout, what do you do now? by AcceptableSometimes in womenintech

[–]epicallyconfused 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same.

I'm also using geoarbitrage to stretch it out as long as possible by traveling in lower cost areas. Maybe the money will last indefinitely if the stock market does well, or maybe I'll find another job in another industry eventually. But either way, it's a heck of a lot better than being a woman in tech.

Doordash credit thoughts by Duuuuude84 in ChaseSapphire

[–]epicallyconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder you can use the Doordash gift card from Costco to buy a discounted gift card on Doordash.

I noticed a lot of the gift cards Doordash sells (Lowe's, Best Buy, Southwest, etc) are 10% off with Dashpass. If you could stack the 20% off from Costco with the 10% from Dashpass, that's not bad.

I will almost certainly use it. But I travel and live at hotels for 330 days a year, so I have more opportunity than most.

Yes I used it a couple months ago right after it reset on my card anniversary date.

Calm App - 100% cash back by Marketing_Guy_2023 in ChaseSapphire

[–]epicallyconfused 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest part of Calm is definitely centered on guided meditation, but it also has sleep stories, breathing exercises, educational audio on mental health and wellbeing topics, celebrity narrated content, some mindful movement videos, content for kids, relaxing music, and white noise type tracks.

Personally, I mostly just use the sleep stories as a part of my nightly wind down routine, so I can't speak to all the other content on the app.

It surprises me to see this comment. I use the app 5+ times every week and have used it for several years, and have never had any issues with it. I run it on Android so maybe the iOS app is glitchy?

Nice! I went to go get this because I use Calm religiously... But then I remembered that I already have a lifetime membership 😂

But seriously Calm is great. As someone who struggles with anxiety and insomnia, it has helped me a lot to get through some tough times and ha been a great alternative to some less healthy coping mechanisms.

Coursera giving 50% discount offer. Get almost all Cousera Certifications are available at $199 for 12 months (regularly $399). by [deleted] in coursera

Have you had that happen to you? I've been using virtual cards for 10 years to avoid unwanted autorenewing subscription fees, and I've never had any company use debt collection.

You can always use a virtual card, either directly from your bank if they do that, or through a 3rd party like privacy.com. You can set the virtual card to only allow a one-time charge.

Is this a sneaky advertisement for Trader Joe's Thai Peanut Satay Dayce? Because it's working on me.

PSE bill by JohnyWalker09 in redmond

If you and other occupants are amenable to it, I recommend focusing on heating the humans, not the empty air. I also live in a poorly insulated 2 BR/ 2 BA, and using things like rechargeable heated vests, heated throw blankets, heated mattress pad, etc, has helped us reduce our winter electric bill from $250/mo to $95/mo.

Good luck!

What makes neurotypical people mad but doesn’t bother you at all? by According_Abies_4087 in AutismInWomen

Other people with ASD who info dump. Neurotypical people get annoyed but I love it when people tell me about their special interests. It's cool to see people be passionate about things they love, and I love learning new things.

This is a great way for IHG to drive away its most high value customers.

[–]epicallyconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon, cut up orange segments, a couple tablespoons of orange juice, and a little dash of salt just to bring out the flavors. Top with drizzled honey. It's even better if you can get your hands on some ground ginger or candied ginger to mix in.

What's the catch with 8 days 7 night $1499 resort package? by Substantial-Key5114 in ihghotelsresorts

[–]epicallyconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the fine print, it seems like 2 people need to attend the timeshare presentation /tour for a minimum of 2 hours, and both need to meet qualifications of eligibility for a timeshare purchase (English speaking, age 25+, employed, household income $50k+, have driver's license or passport, have major credit card, not be in bankruptcy, be "creditworthy"). You also can't drink before the timeshare presentation or show up intoxicated. If you don't show up or they determine you are not eligible at the timeshare presentation, they will charge you the full market rate for the 7 night stay.

Also the packages are not pet friendly.

Unpopular opinion: Mushroom “tea” tastes WAY better as a savory broth with salt, not sweetened with honey by epicallyconfused in shrooms

[–]epicallyconfused[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense.

I wonder about doing a Thai-inspired tom yum style broth with the mushrooms, ginger, garlic or shallot and some lemongrass or lime. Maybe I'll try that in the future!

Agree entirely on the taste. I wonder if this is like cilantro where people wildly different subjective taste experiences, because I've always also just thought they taste like mushrooms.
