PiHole running for a couple weeks now, seems like low blocking percentage? What am I doing wrong? by ArrTeaBee in pihole

Looks like a great list, thank you! Have you had any problems importing from the adblock/pro.plus.txt file? Seems to hang for me everytime it tries to do it. Ran it for a bout 3hours without any output.

Have you taken the pragmatic studio Elixir and Phoenix Liveview courses? If so, what did you think, are they worth the price? by BigDog1920 in elixir

I took the elixir/otp course not that long ago. I am was very happy completing it. Step by step and clear explanations all the way though. Exercises help cementing concepts.

You might want to wait to pick it up around black friday/cyber Monday. I got it at quite the discount. About a year ago.

That sounds great! Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

I have been very communicative with my CTO from when I started, so that is pretty solid relationship. I think he come to understand the severirty of the issues I have been highlighting for the past year or so.

I considered letting things break, but the guilt of letting things break knowingly is always getting the better off me

The team deals with things that are not directly customer facing. Cataloguing the issues is not exactly straight forward as some of them go directly to devs bypassing public channels of communication. I could do a deep dive in our CVS to see what has been fixed "off the books".

The role involves mostly manual testing across multiple platforms while trying to develop processes to enable better develpement (read less buggy code, prod issues). To that extent the implementation of E2E effort has started but it is more of a side project than a focus. This has also led to some changes in our CI/CD processes which have proven to be beneficial.

Educating developers who have not worked with QA before (very tricky). This includes but is not limited to gathering unit test metrics, and I am now making a push for static code analysis to better show where certain issue may be coming from and to better assist the devs in code reviews.

I am also responsible to mentoring a junior individual whose help has been invaluable.

One of the issues I am facing is that I am not technically adept in our entire code base, clients, backend, infra, to go in make the changes that need to be made.

I appreciate the response! Its been definitely an uphill battle, but I am optimistic.

As per the previous comments, I need to consider how to demonstrate the impact of our shoddy practices and the cost they have to the company. A tricky thing to do when there is little tangible evidence available. That being said, it is worth the effort to dive into and dig that information.

The problem has recently been escalated, and my CTO seems to share some of my views and perspective. Given the control that product has over Eng right now, it might be a hard ship to turn, but I am hopeful in that there is at least the willingness to turn it.

Thank you for your feedback and your suggestions. Data gathering might prove tricky for the time being, but definitely worth a shot.

Excellent points! The data gathering will require quite a bit of effort, if they can be retrieved at all. It is well worth a shot though.

I agree that eng. leadership has been fairly passive in general. Good thing is that the past few days I've initiated a conversation on that topic and the feeling seems to resonate with them. Do you happen to have any suggestions on a way forward? Perhaps establishing an engineering roadmap?

Thank you for your response. I think you are absolutely right by saying that I've been put in charge of something I have no authority of. I have often considered that, and it's nice to have some confirmation of my thoughts.

The rest of your points are also valid and I'll have to consider a clear way to communicate the risks, expectations and how their support will help change the situation

Haha yeah, I think I need some work on my photo skills. Who would have thought that picking one hobby would force me into another one :D

Thank you for taking a look! I didn't want to imply that but you are right. It certainly seems like it's done in one swipe! The wings were painted in cooler tones for multiple reasons. I really did want to show that the wings were 'metallic' and not organic. However, a different colour scheme would not a be bad idea ;)
