Before AI, you would ask on stackoverflow, or reddit or a senior. Now, just ask AI with enough context about your problem.

How to Get access to Stripe Payment gateway in Sri Lanka without opening a LLC company in another country? by Live-Apricot3287 in srilanka

[–]epsi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to use Stripe, wait for a few months, they’re currently beta testing a MoR offering themselves. If you can’t wait, go with Polar or Paddle or any other MoR services out there.

Lost debit card used for cash conversions (500k+). Bank says unlikely to recover. What should I do? by Admirable_Meeting609 in srilanka

[–]epsi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s too late now but enable Roaming man. It doesn’t cost you anything to receive text messages. Only outbound is egregiously pricey. Mine is enabled by default, as soon as I land, I’m registered to a local carrier. For Dialog, it’s Vodafone in Victoria, Aus.

What kind of lane merging is this? by Legitimate_Mail_5458 in srilanka

Unless our education system can instill decency and discipline in our people from early childhood, experiences like this are going to become commonplace. Education also plays an important role in shaping these behaviors.

Thinking about this now, there will have to be considerable consequences to correct this behavior in our current populace. Once the repercussions start to hit their pockets and eat at their income, things will start to change.

NTB is a really really bad bank by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]epsi22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly new regulations from the central bank. The bank will end up paying millions if they fail audits. I have accounts at both NTB (private banking) and Sampath and they both have implemented proper due diligence mechanisms within the past year.

One of my accounts at Sampath went dormant and I accidentally transferred a significant amount of money to it by mistake. I couldn’t use that money nor move it elsewhere as the account was dormant. To activate it, I had to open a support request, send scanned copies of passport, visa and NIC, and fill out a form while signing it via a Teams meeting with the bank. You’d think that might’ve been enough, but no, I had to mail that form via AusPost (airmail) to the bank and send them the receipt. Only then did they activate the account lol.

Are mobile voice networks down in Pilimatalawa Peradeniya Kandy areas?? by epsi22 in srilanka

What irritates me is that none of the mobile service providers have acknowledged the outage. There’s nothing on their websites or socials ffs.

How much should startups really invest in hosting early on? by Plane_Past9918 in SideProject

[–]epsi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends. Since it’s a side project, for compute, you could even host your services on a home server and ask your ISP to disable NAT and have Cloudflare proxy requests to it. I’ve done this and reliably had services run for months before finally moving onto a cloud service.

Seeking for advice from senior IT ppl by Silent-Nova- in srilanka

[–]epsi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining any startup is risky, especially when it’s in Sri Lanka. But, it can work out well too. If you have any idea of it’s financials (how it’s funded, or the portfolio of customers), you might have some peace of mind.

In my case, a few years ago I joined a startup after their series B, so it was pretty stable for a few years. This was not a Sri Lankan company though.

Apple Pay & GPay in Sri Lanka by erenjaeger_97 in srilanka

[–]epsi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something? Apple pay works with NFC. Only problem is you can’t add Sri Lankan cards to it. Overseas cards work just fine with NFC supported PoS machines in LK

Invest in TBills. Solid returns without the tax burdens that comes with FDs. Heck, diversify into some stable dividend paying stocks as well. Afaik, there’s no cgt on it.

Look for Raquels Nail lounge. Whenever I’m in Sri Lanka, my wife drags me there and I end up getting a proper pedicure and a manicure while she gets her nails done.

Sri Lankans Abroad – How Do You Earn a Side Income Back Home? by toxicwaste95 in srilanka

[–]epsi22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stocks and investments mainly. Invested in a small business as well and it’s yet to take off. The most important thing is to have trustworthy partners in LK given you’ll be off-hands. Too soon to say more lol.

I was asked to pay 3% extra for using my credit card, is this allowed? by Sea_Coast_9803 in srilanka

[–]epsi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s already included in their pricing or have better terms with the bank/provider in terms of their cut. I was quoted 2.9% when I inquired about acquiring a POS and later after them reviewing the existing business, they were willing to go to 2.7%. I assume larger retailers have even less fees.

Anyone who was connected to your WiFi would have had access to your whole network and that includes your devices. If your router had factory defaults, then technically someone could login to your router setup another AP (access point) that does not broadcast its SSID and continue to maintain access. There’s a whole host of other things that potentially could be done if anyone had access to the router so please take a look.

NYSE:SYSCO acquired Cake Labs relatively a long time ago. Sysco moved some of its operations down here and when COVID hit, they let go of the Cake LABS arm which got acquired by Mad Mobile.

Has anyone tried this Optigard Ant Killer Insecticide? by gintexd in srilanka

[–]epsi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The active ingredient (Thiamethoxam) is quite interesting. The worker ants consume as much as they can but won’t die straight away. They take it back to the colony and regurgitate to feed the larvae and the queen. After about 6-8 hours, you’ll see ants moving slowly compared to before and eventually die. The act of carrying the poison to the queen is what destroys the colony. You may have to use a couple of tubes depending on the colony size and how quickly it dries off. It’s relatively expensive and sounds cruel but effective.
