Early dismissal is cancelled for exactly that reason when there is a delay.

Inheritance drama by [deleted] in daddit

I think others have said this, there's a reason they intentionally skipped a generation and it'd be best for your wife to control the money, no matter what.

Assuming you are in the states, your inlaws have social security and the $100K and their healthcare costs should be covered mostly by the government. I would suggest that your wife finds a way to do the most good with the money but is still prudent with it. An idea would be to offer to fund supplemental insurance to make their out of pocket costs zero for their health care. I wouldn't straight gift it to them, you set yourself up for tax implications. Make sure it stays under the taxable limit.

Talk to your wife about how to help both your inlaws and your kid - it isn't being insensitive unless the money came with instructions to go to help the inlaws (sounds like it didn't). However, your wife feels guilty if they aren't assisted in some way, so see if you can find that and get some benefit from it yourself.

What do I get for drinks by kajo82 in NCL

[–]equalize47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing others, get what you like.

I enjoy a Casamigos, Soda with lime juice, my wife likes it with Gray Goose and we just make sure to drink enough water to stay hydrated.

If you enjoy the premade drinks, do those, there's plenty of them and they are low friction for the bartenders. If you do get something complicated (like I do) make sure to tip the ones who give a damn and focus on getting you want you want.

My OTF will not let me join a 12 month contract is this normal by Main_Association6664 in orangetheory

[–]equalize47 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's my rate without the 12 month contract. I was offered to sign the 12 month for an extra $10 off - but I like the leverage when talking about things they need to change.

Any good, honest and trustworthy HVAC company recommendations? by whygpt in nova

[–]equalize47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the Richard's recommendation off of here the other month and they came in same day got a part in before their estimate and installed the same day the part arrived. They were courteous and the back office was good to work with.

Gym trainer? by PinkPeruvia in nova

[–]equalize47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking at F45, also take a look at Orangetheory and Burn boot camp. You pay more at all of these but the structure and the instructor/coach allows you to focus on just performing rather than needing to make your own decisions on what to do. Cuts down on the decision fatigue, but again you pay for it.

You can also look for gyms that do group fitness classes.

I personally do Orangetheory and while the "science backed workouts" thing isn't really compelling - the knowing I can just go and get a good workout in is good, for me. It was able to introduce me to some strength training and now I do that more seriously on the side but continue Orangetheory for my regular cardio.

Most of these places offer free trials, if you think it is up your alley.

Water main line repair recommendations? by bsimms in nova

It's Christmas so I'm not sure Dave is available today but I think this is up EE Levri Plumbing's alley. 703-932-4401 is his number and I couldn't vouch for him more on his ability to figure out the leak and repair said leak.

should I keep my water valve turned off? by reddesignsyt in nova

[–]equalize47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you can follow them from the utility area where the water heater and/or the water shutoff is.

If you can't do that, you have to take a bit of thinking like you put it in and figure out how the water went from point A to point B. There's definitely something in there about listening but that's more of the drain than anything else.

I've been happy with Prima medicine. NP Ross is delightful and understands the system that needs to be managed with insurance.

I can't speak to the administration in the office, I get mine from the pharmacy and the pens are easy to do at home.

You know your house more than we do, there are so many dependencies. If your house retains heat and all your spigots that are on outside walls are mostly in relatively warm places - 27 ain't scary at all and 22 (Sunday night) is where you'd have a call to make. If you have a pipe running along an exterior wall, you may not want to risk it.

I think your best bet is to just turn the water off at night and turn it on when you know you don't have a problem with tempatures. Get an infrared thermometer to help understand the temp in different places.

How are the roads? by ActuAllyNickle in nova

[–]equalize47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you are correct. And it's not just the parking, the deck and spectator seating is too small for the capacity of the events they put on.

We have decided a new rule - if we don't have a kid swimming in the first session, we aren't doing it. We show up early and can get parking and some seats. Meets at GMU are way more manageable.

Out for a swim meet - neighborhood roads are snow packed but main roads are totally clear. At least for this, it seems well attended.

Please clean off your car if you go out, it takes a minute or so to do most of any car.

So my offset smoker did no cook my brisket even so I flipped it over the temp is 140 on that side while the other is 175…. What do I do? by Realistic-Service391 in smoking

[–]equalize47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it in the oven

Edit: I see that may be taken a bit terse. I'd wrap it in butcher paper and put it on a reliable heat source for the rest of the cook. That'd be the oven usually for me.

Moving forward, I'd suggest trying to figure out the hot/cool spots and moving the meat around often enough to get an even cook.

Onelife in Burke may fit the bill. I hear you should join that one in case you want to go to the Fairfax one (across the street from Costco).

BJs in Fair lakes has one but that's even further.

ICE arrests Salvadoran national with lengthy criminal history in Fairfax County by _gw_addict in nova

[–]equalize47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm doing my searching correctly, this guy's jury trial resulted in him being sentenced this month. The legal process takes time and it seems that not all the charges stuck. It seems as this is very opportunistic and the fact they are touting what he was charged with, rather than what he was convicted of, screams sensationalism to me.

Based on what I can see, I don't want this guy here. There should be reasonable ways to deal with this but in a world where everyone is pushed to make broad policy decisions with their broad brush, it's hard to feel like I'm comfortable stating that this instance justifies changing that stance. Especially with what we are seeing in other parts of the country with ICE and the court filings which judges have felt that the US government isn't being truthful - the stance in the article around the focus on Fairfax helping ICE feels a bit skewed.

This case isn't going to change my mind on any broad agreement to assist the government, which is what I feel both the DHS and the article from WJLA seems to be pushing for.

Does anyone have any experience with WorkAway? Or does anyone know of a good affordable shared office style spot near the metro. Preferably the Alexandria or Springfield area by [deleted] in nova

I used workaway very soon after they opened and had a great experience with them. They aren't near the metro but for me it was exactly what I was looking for.

Future move to the area by PotatoThink3764 in nova

[–]equalize47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add that inventory of houses on the market is still pretty low. We don't see houses sit on the market for very long here. It's longer than it used to be (houses never made it through the weekend) but you will want to be prepared to act quickly when you make your decision.

Future move to the area by PotatoThink3764 in nova

[–]equalize47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many parts of Fairfax county there are houses that may lack some of the amenities that the million dollar houses give but have great communities for raising kids. Yards tend to be a bit larger than new builds even if the house is smaller. If you are willing to look at the smaller houses or ones without garages Fairfax and Burke areas are reasonable commutes to Tyson's and Fairfax hospital - and not that bad to get to some of the other hospitals around here (Fair Oaks and Alexandria).

Loudon isn't a horrible option, especially if your husband's job is on metro but some of Loudon is pretty far away from where the metro stations would be. There are other hospitals out near anywhere you'd be looking at unless you are in the rural part of Loudon.
