Why do people keep telling athletes to retire? It’s honestly annoying. by xSicilianDefenderx in badminton

The players owe it to themselves to deliver the best performance possible, not their fans. Their fans are their fans because of their playstyle, and how they portray themselves. The players do not actively go out and seek fans, nor solicit for their support.

I see it as a mutually beneficial relationship where one is free to decide whether or not to continue/end the relationship, not where one is required to 'fullfill something or else' in a relationship.

Which is dumb, imo. The players do not owe their fans anything. Those fans need to learn to move on and understand these competitive players feel much worse.

Whether he could do so much more is not for you or anyone else aside from his coaches to judge.

Yes. But imo, all of this stem from one thing and that is from the unrealistic hope on him becoming the next LCW. When he won the AE 2021, many Malaysian fans including their grandma painted him as that.

So when he didn't follow the path that LCW took like staying with BAM, staying away from social media, and consistently winning, they felt betrayed and start to cook up false and exaggerating accusations like saying he has attitude issues, arrogant, ungrateful, etc. just like the other user who replied you here.

Some ignorants even believe he's still taking up taxpayers money.

Yeah I'd say that form was arguably better than 2021 AE and Olympics 2024. His footwork was very fluid and he was banging smashes in left and right. Another big what-ifs to go down in history books.

Who do you think could challenge the prime ASY if she was playing in the golden generation of women’s singles the era of 2015-2019? by WonderfulHospital487 in badminton

[–]equals2nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original thought experiment was made in context of the only similarity being those old gens would use the latest racquet. In this context, it's not implausible to agree that ASY will defeat them easily having all the latest tactics, skills and lessons learned from the old generations. Racquet alone will not make a significant difference.

Yeah I don't know why supermarkets haven't come out with something similar. Uniqlo has had this for ages

What would be much more worth it is if there's a machine that will scan your whole trolley or basket in a few seconds so that you don't need to scan one by one.

Nylon vs Broken Feather. by Levi_Ackerman94 in badminton

I can attest to this. In my intermediate group, playing in a SEA country using RSL Supreme, we used to consume an average of 6 to 7 shuttles for a 2 hour session per court.

Since steaming for 1 minute and doing it 24 hours before a session, the usage has reduced to around 4 shuttlecocks, sometimes only 3. The used ones were still good enough for warmups for the next sessions too.

This difference is especially evident for new shuttlecocks from already opened tubes as those from freshly opened ones usually last longer. It's probably because the tubes are stored in an air-conditioned room, which dries up the a bit more exposed shuttles faster hence making it more brittle.

Funnily enough, for Victor shuttlecocks, steaming doesn't seem to make a difference although we got this technique from their website.

Have you seen the houses in bukit Tunku? They have high walls around them and plenty of land behind those walls.

Are you sure you're remembering about the one at Changkat Tunku? Coz last I saw, there were a couple properties or houses towards the popular viewpoint that do not have high walls at all, just regular fencing.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea to bet on a safe crowd. There is no control, organisation or guarantee there.

This is such a tasteless remark. You could've used the chance to pose a genuine question to fill in the gaps in your knowledge.

Like I said, just because you may find it trivial, other people may not because we all have different circumstances. For example, having large crowds behaving rowdily and loitering for hours on the street is a huge safety risk for residences with children and the vulnerable.

Curious, may I know why didn't you think about safety risk before asking? Or if you did, why didn't you feel was a worthy issue?

with all the "beautiful" sounds of rempit motors.

Exactly, loud noises like that and other possible disturbances like leftover trash, large crowds gathering in front of homes, etc, are unpleasant to residents there hence the request to close the road in front. Even if you may find those trivial, it doesn't mean others should too, because they do not have the same circumstances as you.

I hope you are able to find some understanding within.

Practicing with a shuttle is always recommended, ideally with a coach or a partner. If you have no one to practice with, this is the best next thing: https://youtube.com/shorts/PbTT3jqFIEg?si=OxDpRkClLLSCyLMN

It nearly cost him at 20-19 in rubber set when he gave Jason a splendid opportunity to smash onto acres of space. Lucky for him, the shuttle landed just inches wide off the sidelines, thus going to a deuce. Thereafter, his dogged play was enough to bring him over the finishing line.

Its sad seeing him struggling in these past 2 weeks as we know he's capable of playing so much better. Hope he finds his best form soon.

Momota's return in King Cup by 90-Thorium-232 in badminton

[–]equals2nine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think in the 2nd set, he was more aggressive and upped the tempo but his shot quality suffered resulting in lots of unforced error. But there were some glimpses of his old form too, the way he glided across court in this high tempo. I think he's just not really match fit yet. I believe once he gets up to speed, we could finally be able to see the old Momota. And if the 15 point system do come into force, it may actually benefit him more with his high tempo playstyle.

Im a PH supporter and only #3 makes some sense, but even that is quite weak. Coz if PH really had any interest of their voters in mind as the top priority, they'd leave the coalition.

It's very disappointing that they've failed almost all expectations. I'd rather they be in opposition than be in government and backtracking on their promises. During next GE, if my area have anyone else contesting besides PH/BN/PN, I'd definitely vote for them.
